Psalm 138

Give Thanks to the Lord

Of David.

138 (A)I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
    before (B)the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down (C)towards your (D)holy temple
    and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
    for you have exalted above all things
    your name and your word.[a]
On the day I called, you answered me;
    my strength of soul you increased.[b]
(E)All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
    for they have heard the words of your mouth,
and they shall sing of (F)the ways of the Lord,
    for great is the glory of the Lord.
(G)For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
    but the haughty he knows from afar.
(H)Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you (I)preserve my life;
you (J)stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
    and your (K)right hand delivers me.
The Lord will (L)fulfil his purpose for me;
    (M)your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.
    Do not forsake (N)the work of your hands.

Ezekiel 28:11-19

A Lament over the King of Tyre

11 Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me: 12 (A)“Son of man, (B)raise a lamentation over (C)the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God:

“You were the signet of perfection,[a]
    (D)full of wisdom and (E)perfect in beauty.
13 You were in (F)Eden, the garden of God;
    (G)every precious stone was your covering,
(H)sardius, topaz, and diamond,
    beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire,[b] (I)emerald, and carbuncle;
    and crafted in gold were your settings
    and your engravings.[c]
(J)On the day that you were created
    they were prepared.
14 You were an anointed (K)guardian cherub.
    I placed you;[d] you were on (L)the holy mountain of God;
    in the midst of the stones of fire you walked.
15 You were blameless in your ways
    (M)from the day you were created,
    till unrighteousness was found in you.
16 In the abundance of (N)your trade
    you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned;
so I cast you as a profane thing from (O)the mountain of God,
    and I destroyed you,[e] (P)O guardian cherub,
    from the midst of the stones of fire.
17 (Q)Your heart was proud because of (R)your beauty;
    you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendour.
I cast you to the ground;
    I exposed you before kings,
    to feast their eyes on you.
18 By the multitude of your iniquities,
    in the unrighteousness of your trade
    you profaned your sanctuaries;
so (S)I brought fire out from your midst;
    it consumed you,
and I turned you to ashes on the earth
    (T)in the sight of all who saw you.
19 All who know you among the peoples
    are appalled at you;
(U)you have come to a dreadful end
    and shall be no more for ever.”

1 Corinthians 6:1-11

Lawsuits Against Believers

When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous (A)instead of the saints? Or do you not know that (B)the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! So if you have such cases, (C)why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? (D)I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. (E)Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even (F)your own brothers![a]

Or do you not know that the unrighteous[b] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: (G)neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practise homosexuality,[c] 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And (H)such were some of you. But (I)you were washed, (J)you were sanctified, (K)you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
