Psalm 119:129-136

Pe

129 Your testimonies are (A)wonderful;
    therefore my soul (B)keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
    it imparts (C)understanding to the simple.
131 I (D)open my mouth and (E)pant,
    because I (F)long for your commandments.
132 (G)Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    as is your way with those who love your name.
133 (H)Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
    and let no iniquity (I)get dominion over me.
134 (J)Redeem me from man's oppression,
    that I may keep your precepts.
135 (K)Make your face shine upon your servant,
    and (L)teach me your statutes.
136 My eyes (M)shed streams of tears,
    because people (N)do not keep your law.

1 Kings 1:28-37

Solomon Anointed King

28 Then King David answered, “Call Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king's presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king swore, saying, (A)“As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity, 30 (B)as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’, even so will I do this day.” 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground and paid homage to the king and said, (C)“May my lord King David live for ever!”

32 King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king. 33 And the king said to them, “Take with you (D)the servants of your lord and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and bring him down to (E)Gihon. 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet there (F)anoint him king over Israel. (G)Then blow the trumpet and say, (H)‘Long live King Solomon!’ 35 You shall then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, for he shall be king in my place. And I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.” 36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, “Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, say so. 37 (I)As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, (J)and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”

1 Corinthians 4:14-20

14 I do not write these things (A)to make you ashamed, but to admonish you (B)as my beloved children. 15 For (C)though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For (D)I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 16 I urge you, then, (E)be imitators of me. 17 That is why (F)I sent[a] you Timothy, (G)my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ,[b] (H)as I teach them everywhere in every church. 18 Some are (I)arrogant, (J)as though I were not coming to you. 19 But (K)I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk of these arrogant people but their power. 20 For (L)the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.
