Psalm 92

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 (A)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, (B)O Most High;
to declare your (C)steadfast love in (D)the morning,
    and your (E)faithfulness by (F)night,
to the music of (G)the lute and (H)the harp,
    to the melody of (I)the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your (J)work;
    at (K)the works of your hands I sing for joy.
How (L)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your (M)thoughts are very (N)deep!
The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
that though (O)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all (P)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction for ever;
    but you, O Lord, are (Q)on high for ever.
For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be (R)scattered.
10 But you have exalted my (S)horn like that of (T)the wild ox;
    you have (U)poured over me[a] fresh oil.
11 My (V)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
    my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.
12 (W)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in (X)the courts of our God.
14 They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
15 (Y)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my (Z)rock, and there is (AA)no unrighteousness in him.

Leviticus 26:3-20

(A)“If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them, then (B)I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (C)Your threshing shall last to the time of the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last to the time for sowing. And (D)you shall eat your bread to the full and (E)dwell in your land securely. (F)I will give peace in the land, and (G)you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. And (H)I will remove harmful beasts from the land, (I)and the sword shall not go through your land. You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. (J)Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. (K)I will turn to you and (L)make you fruitful and multiply you and will confirm my covenant with you. 10 You shall eat (M)old store long kept, and you shall clear out the old to make way for the new. 11 (N)I will make my dwelling[a] among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. 12 (O)And I (P)will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. 13 (Q)I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. (R)And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.

Punishment for Disobedience

14 (S)“But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, 15 if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but (T)break my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with (U)wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And (V)you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will (W)set my face against you, and (X)you shall be struck down before your enemies. (Y)Those who hate you shall rule over you, and (Z)you shall flee when none pursues you. 18 And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again (AA)sevenfold for your sins, 19 and I will break (AB)the pride of your power, and I (AC)will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 And (AD)your strength shall be spent in vain, for (AE)your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

A Life Pleasing to God

Finally, then, brothers,[a] we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you (A)received from us (B)how you ought to walk and (C)to please God, just as you are doing, that you (D)do so more and more. For (E)you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, (F)your sanctification:[b] (G)that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own (H)body[c] in holiness and (I)honour, not in (J)the passion of lust (K)like the Gentiles (L)who do not know God; that no one transgress and (M)wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is (N)an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For (O)God has not called us for (P)impurity, but in holiness. Therefore (Q)whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, (R)who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
