Psalm 8

How Majestic Is Your Name

To the choirmaster: according to The (A)Gittith.[a] A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your (B)name in all the earth!
You have set your (C)glory above the heavens.
(D)Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established (E)strength because of your foes,
to still (F)the enemy and the avenger.
When I (G)look at your heavens, the work of your (H)fingers,
the moon and the stars, (I)which you have set in place,
(J)what is man that you are (K)mindful of him,
and (L)the son of man that you (M)care for him?
Yet you have made him a little lower than (N)the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with (O)glory and honour.
You have given him (P)dominion over the works of your hands;
(Q)you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Job 38:1-11

The Lord Answers Job

38 Then the Lord (A)answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

“Who is this that (B)darkens counsel by words (C)without knowledge?
(D)Dress for action[a] like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.
“Where were you when I (E)laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
    or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars (F)sang together
and all (G)the sons of God (H)shouted for joy?
“Or who (I)shut in the sea with doors
when it burst out from the womb,
when I made clouds its garment
and (J)thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed (K)limits for it
    and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
and here shall your (L)proud waves be stayed’?

2 Timothy 1:8-12

Therefore (A)do not be ashamed of (B)the testimony about our Lord, nor of (C)me his prisoner, but (D)share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, (E)who saved us and (F)called us to[a] a holy calling, (G)not because of our works but because of (H)his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus (I)before the ages began,[b] 10 and which now has (J)been manifested through (K)the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, (L)who abolished death and (M)brought life and (N)immortality to light through the gospel, 11 (O)for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 (P)which is why I suffer as I do. But (Q)I am not ashamed, for (R)I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until (S)that Day (T)what has been entrusted to me.[c]
