Psalm 2

Psalm 2[a]

A Psalm for a Royal Coronation

Why do the nations protest
    and the peoples conspire in vain?(A)
Kings on earth rise up
    and princes plot together
    against the Lord and against his anointed one:[b](B)
“Let us break their shackles
    and cast off their chains from us!”(C)
The one enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord derides them,(D)
Then he speaks to them in his anger,
    in his wrath he terrifies them:
“I myself have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”
I will proclaim the decree of the Lord,
    he said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have begotten you.(E)
Ask it of me,
    and I will give you the nations as your inheritance,
    and, as your possession, the ends of the earth.
With an iron rod you will shepherd them,
    like a potter’s vessel you will shatter them.”(F)
10 And now, kings, give heed;
    take warning, judges on earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear;
    exult with trembling,
Accept correction
    lest he become angry and you perish along the way
    when his anger suddenly blazes up.(G)
Blessed are all who take refuge in him!

Exodus 6:2-9

Confirmation of the Promise to the Ancestors. [a]Then God spoke to Moses, and said to him: I am the Lord. As God the Almighty[b] I appeared(A) to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but by my name, Lord, I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they were residing as aliens.(B) Now that I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians have reduced to slavery, I am mindful of my covenant.(C) Therefore, say to the Israelites: I am the Lord. I will free you from the burdens of the Egyptians and will deliver you from their slavery. I will redeem you by my outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God;(D) and you will know that I, the Lord, am your God who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians and I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your own possession—I, the Lord! But when Moses told this to the Israelites, they would not listen to him because of their dejection and hard slavery.

Hebrews 8:1-7

Chapter 8

Heavenly Priesthood of Jesus.[a] The main point of what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,(A) a minister of the sanctuary[b] and of the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up.(B) Now every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus the necessity for this one also to have something to offer.(C) If then he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are those who offer gifts according to the law.(D) They worship in a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, as Moses was warned when he was about to erect the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”(E) Now he has obtained so much more excellent a ministry as he is mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises.(F)

Old and New Covenants.[c] For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second one.
