Psalm 119:1-8

Psalm 119[a]

א (Alef)

119 How blessed are those whose actions are blameless,[b]
who obey[c] the law of the Lord.
How blessed are those who observe his rules,
and seek him with all their heart,
who, moreover, do no wrong,
but follow in his footsteps.[d]
You demand that your precepts
be carefully kept.[e]
If only I were predisposed[f]
to keep your statutes.
Then I would not be ashamed,
if[g] I were focused on[h] all your commands.
I will give you sincere thanks,[i]
when I learn your just regulations.
I will keep your statutes.
Do not completely abandon me.[j]

Genesis 26:1-5

Isaac and Abimelech

26 There was a famine in the land, subsequent to the earlier famine that occurred[a] in the days of Abraham.[b] Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines at Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt;[c] settle down in the land that I will point out to you.[d] Stay[e] in this land. Then I will be with you and will bless you,[f] for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants,[g] and I will fulfill[h] the solemn promise I made[i] to your father Abraham. I will multiply your descendants so they will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them[j] all these lands. All the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.[k] All this will come to pass[l] because Abraham obeyed me[m] and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”[n]

James 1:12-16

12 Happy is the one[a] who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God[b] promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted by evil,[c] and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires. 15 Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death. 16 Do not be led astray, my dear brothers and sisters.[d]
