Psalm 119[a]

A Prayer to God, the Lawgiver

Aleph

Blessed those whose way is blameless,
    who walk by the law of the Lord.(A)
Blessed those who keep his testimonies,
    who seek him with all their heart.(B)
They do no wrong;
    they walk in his ways.
You have given them the command
    to observe your precepts with care.
May my ways be firm
    in the observance of your statutes!
Then I will not be ashamed
    to ponder all your commandments.
I will praise you with sincere heart
    as I study your righteous judgments.
I will observe your statutes;
    do not leave me all alone.

Genesis 26:1-5

Chapter 26

Isaac and Abimelech. [a](A)There was a famine in the land, distinct from the earlier one that had occurred in the days of Abraham, and Isaac went down to Abimelech, king of the Philistines in Gerar.(B) The Lord appeared to him and said: Do not go down to Egypt, but camp in this land wherever I tell you. Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I will give all these lands, in fulfillment of the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.(C) I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and in your descendants all the nations of the earth will find blessing—(D) this because Abraham obeyed me, keeping my mandate, my commandments, my ordinances, and my instructions.

James 1:12-16

Temptation. 12 (A)Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation,[a] for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him. 13 [b]No one experiencing temptation should say, “I am being tempted by God”; for God is not subject to temptation to evil, and he himself tempts no one.(B) 14 Rather, each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire conceives and brings forth sin, and when sin reaches maturity it gives birth to death.

16 [c]Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers:
