Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Restore Us, O God
To the choirmaster: according to (A)Lilies. A Testimony. Of (B)Asaph, a Psalm.
80 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead (C)Joseph like (D)a flock.
You who are (E)enthroned upon the cherubim, (F)shine forth.
2 Before (G)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
(H)stir up your might
and (I)come to save us!
4 O (L)Lord God of hosts,
(M)how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
5 You have fed them with (N)the bread of tears
and given them tears to drink in full measure.
6 (O)You make us an object of contention for our (P)neighbors,
and our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 (Q)Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved!
23 (A)And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name (B)and doing for them[a] great and awesome things by driving out before your people,[b] whom (C)you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods? 24 (D)And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever. And you, O Lord, became their God. 25 And now, O Lord God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken. 26 And your name will be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is God over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you. 27 For you, O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. 28 And now, O Lord God, you are God, and (E)your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. 29 Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, (F)and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.”
31 (A)He who comes from above (B)is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and (C)speaks in an earthly way. (D)He who comes from heaven (E)is above all. 32 (F)He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, (G)yet no one receives his testimony. 33 Whoever receives his testimony (H)sets his seal to this, (I)that God is true. 34 For he whom (J)God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit (K)without measure. 35 (L)The Father loves the Son and (M)has given all things into his hand. 36 (N)Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; (O)whoever does not obey the Son shall not (P)see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
