Psalm 32:1-7

Blessed Are the Forgiven

A Maskil[a] of David.

32 (A)Blessed is the one whose (B)transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord (C)counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit (D)there is no deceit.
For when I kept silent, my (E)bones wasted away
    through my (F)groaning all day long.
For day and night your (G)hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried up[b] as by the heat of summer. Selah
I (H)acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I (I)will confess my transgressions to the Lord”,
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
Therefore let everyone who is (J)godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you (K)may be found;
surely in the rush of (L)great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a (M)hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from (N)trouble;
    you surround me with (O)shouts of deliverance. Selah

Job 22:21-23:17

21 (A)“Agree with God, and (B)be at peace;
    thereby good will come to you.
22 Receive instruction from (C)his mouth,
    and (D)lay up his words in your heart.
23 If you (E)return to the Almighty you will be (F)built up;
    if you (G)remove injustice far from your tents,
24 if you lay gold in (H)the dust,
    and gold of (I)Ophir among the stones of the torrent bed,
25 then the Almighty will be your gold
    and your precious silver.
26 For then you (J)will delight yourself in the Almighty
    and (K)lift up your face to God.
27 You will (L)make your prayer to him, and he will hear you,
    and you will (M)pay your vows.
28 You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you,
    and (N)light will shine on your ways.
29 For when they are humbled you say, ‘It is because of pride’;[a]
    but he saves (O)the lowly.
30 He (P)delivers even the one who is not innocent,[b]
    who will be delivered through (Q)the cleanness of your hands.”

Job Replies: Where Is God?

23 Then Job answered and said:

“Today also my (R)complaint is bitter;[c]
    my (S)hand is heavy on account of my groaning.
Oh, (T)that I knew where I might find him,
    that I might come even to his (U)seat!
I would (V)lay my case before him
    and fill my mouth with arguments.
I would know what he would answer me
    and understand what he would say to me.
Would he (W)contend with me in the greatness of his power?
    No; he would pay attention to me.
There an upright man could argue with him,
    and I would be acquitted for ever by my judge.
“Behold, (X)I go forwards, but he is not there,
    and backwards, but I do not perceive him;
on the left hand when he is working, I do not behold him;
    he turns to the right hand, but I do not see him.
10 But he (Y)knows (Z)the way that I (AA)take;
    when he has (AB)tried me, I shall come out as gold.
11 My foot (AC)has held fast to his steps;
    I have kept his way and have (AD)not turned aside.
12 I have not departed from the commandment of his lips;
    I have (AE)treasured the words of his mouth more than my (AF)portion of food.
13 But he is unchangeable,[d] and (AG)who can turn him back?
    What he (AH)desires, that he does.
14 For he will complete what he (AI)appoints for me,
    and many such things are (AJ)in his mind.
15 Therefore I am terrified at his presence;
    when I consider, I am in dread of him.
16 God has made my (AK)heart faint;
    the Almighty has terrified me;
17 yet I am not silenced because of the darkness,
    nor because thick darkness covers my face.

2 Peter 1:1-11

Greeting

Simeon[a] Peter, a servant[b] and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained (A)a faith of equal standing with ours (B)by the righteousness of our (C)God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

(D)May grace and peace be multiplied to you (E)in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Make Your Calling and Election Sure

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him (F)who called us to[c] his own glory and excellence,[d] by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become (G)partakers of the divine nature, (H)having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith (I)with virtue,[e] and virtue (J)with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control (K)with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness (L)with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection (M)with love. For if these qualities[f] are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or (N)unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so short-sighted that he (O)is blind, having forgotten that he was (P)cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers,[g] be all the more diligent to make your calling and (Q)election sure, for if you practise these qualities (R)you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you (S)an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
