Psalm 84:1-7

My Soul Longs for the Courts of the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (A)The Gittith.[a] A Psalm of (B)the Sons of Korah.

84 How (C)lovely is your (D)dwelling place,
    O Lord of hosts!
My soul (E)longs, yes, (F)faints
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
    to (G)the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
    (H)my King and my God.
(I)Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
    ever (J)singing your praise! Selah
Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    (K)in whose heart are the highways to Zion.[b]
As they go through the Valley of Baca
    they make it a place of springs;
    (L)the early rain also covers it with (M)pools.
They go (N)from strength to strength;
    each one (O)appears before God in Zion.

Jeremiah 9:17-26

17 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
(A)“Consider, and call for the mourning women to come;
    send for the skilful women to come;
18 let them make haste (B)and raise a wailing over us,
    (C)that our eyes may run down with tears
    and our eyelids flow with water.
19 For a sound of wailing is heard from Zion:
    (D)‘How we are ruined!
    We are utterly shamed,
because we have left the land,
    because they have cast down our dwellings.’”
20 Hear, O women, the word of the Lord,
    and let your ear receive the word of his mouth;
teach to your daughters a lament,
    and each to her neighbour a dirge.
21 For death has come up into our windows;
    it has entered our palaces,
(E)cutting off the children from the streets
    and the young men from the squares.
22 Speak, “Thus declares the Lord:
(F)‘The dead bodies of men shall fall
    like dung upon the open field,
(G)like sheaves after the reaper,
    and none shall gather them.’”

23 Thus says the Lord: (H)“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but (I)let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practises steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. (J)For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

25 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when (K)I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— 26 (L)Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and (M)all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are (N)uncircumcised in heart.”

2 Timothy 3:10-15

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10 (A)You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me (B)at Antioch, (C)at Iconium, and (D)at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet (E)from them all (F)the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to (G)live a godly life in Christ Jesus (H)will be persecuted, 13 while (I)evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and (J)being deceived. 14 But as for you, (K)continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how (L)from childhood you have been acquainted with (M)the sacred writings, (N)which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
