Psalm 3

Save Me, O My God

A Psalm of David, (A)when he fled from Absalom his son.

O Lord, (B)how many are my foes!
    Many are (C)rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
    (D)there is no salvation for him in God. Selah[a]
But you, O Lord, are (E)a shield (F)about me,
    my glory, and (G)the lifter of my head.
I (H)cried aloud to the Lord,
    and he (I)answered me from his (J)holy hill. Selah
I (K)lay down and slept;
    I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
I (L)will not be afraid of many thousands of people
    who have (M)set themselves against me all round.
(N)Arise, O Lord!
    Save me, O my God!
For you (O)strike all my enemies on the cheek;
    you (P)break the teeth of the wicked.
(Q)Salvation belongs to the Lord;
    your blessing be on your people! Selah

Habakkuk 1:5-17

The Lord's Answer

(A)“Look among the nations, and see;
    wonder and be astounded.
(B)For I am doing a work in your days
    that you would not believe if told.
For behold, (C)I am raising up the Chaldeans,
    that bitter and hasty nation,
(D)who march through the breadth of the earth,
    (E)to seize dwellings not their own.
They are dreaded and fearsome;
    (F)their justice and dignity go forth from themselves.
(G)Their horses are swifter than leopards,
    more fierce than (H)the evening wolves;
    their horsemen press proudly on.
Their horsemen come from afar;
    (I)they fly like an eagle swift to devour.
They all come (J)for violence,
    all their faces forward.
    They gather captives (K)like sand.
10 At kings they scoff,
    and at rulers they laugh.
(L)They laugh at every fortress,
    for (M)they pile up earth and take it.
11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on,
    (N)guilty men, (O)whose own might is their god!”

Habakkuk's Second Complaint

12 Are you not (P)from everlasting,
    O Lord my God, my Holy One?
    (Q)We shall not die.
O Lord, (R)you have ordained them as a judgement,
    and you, O (S)Rock, have established them for reproof.
13 You who are (T)of purer eyes than to see evil
    and cannot look at wrong,
(U)why do you idly look at traitors
    and (V)remain silent when the wicked swallows up
    the man more righteous than he?
14 You make mankind like the fish of the sea,
    like crawling things that have no ruler.
15 (W)He brings all of them up (X)with a hook;
    he drags them out with his net;
he gathers them in his dragnet;
    so he rejoices and is glad.
16 (Y)Therefore he sacrifices to his net
    and makes offerings to his dragnet;
for by them he lives in luxury,[a]
    and his food is rich.
17 Is he then to keep on emptying his net
    (Z)and mercilessly killing nations for ever?

James 1:2-11

Testing of Your Faith

(A)Count it all joy, my brothers,[a] when you meet trials (B)of various kinds, for you know that (C)the testing of your faith (D)produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be (E)perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

(F)If any of you lacks wisdom, (G)let him ask God, (H)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But (I)let him ask in faith, (J)with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like (K)a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; (L)he is a double-minded man, (M)unstable in all his ways.

Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and (N)the rich in his humiliation, because (O)like a flower of the grass[b] he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and (P)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
