Psalm 62

My Soul Waits for God Alone

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

62 For God alone (B)my soul (C)waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.
(D)He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my (E)fortress; (F)I shall not be greatly shaken.
How long will all of you attack a man
    to batter him,
    like (G)a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
They only plan to thrust him down from his (H)high position.
    They take pleasure in falsehood.
(I)They bless with their mouths,
    but inwardly they curse. Selah
For God alone, O (J)my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
(K)He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my (L)salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, (M)my refuge is God.
(N)Trust in him at all times, O people;
    (O)pour out your heart before him;
    God is (P)a refuge for us. Selah
(Q)Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate (R)are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    (S)they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion;
    (T)set no vain hopes on robbery;
    (U)if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
11 (V)Once God has spoken;
    (W)twice have I heard this:
that (X)power belongs to God,
12     and that to you, O Lord, (Y)belongs steadfast love.
For you will (Z)render to a man
    according to his work.

Hosea 12:2-14

The Lord's Indictment of Israel and Judah

(A)The Lord has an indictment against Judah
    and will punish Jacob according to his ways;
    he will repay him according to his deeds.
(B)In the womb he took his brother by the heel,
    and in his manhood he strove with God.
He strove with the angel and prevailed;
    he wept and sought his favour.
(C)He met God[a] at Bethel,
    and there God spoke with us—
the Lord, the God of hosts,
    (D)the Lord is his memorial name:
“So you, (E)by the help of your God, return,
    (F)hold fast to love and justice,
    and wait continually for your God.”
A merchant, in whose hands are (G)false balances,
    he loves (H)to oppress.
Ephraim has said, “Ah, but (I)I am rich;
    I have found wealth for myself;
in all my labours (J)they cannot find in me iniquity or sin.”
(K)I am the Lord your God
    from the land of Egypt;
I will again make you (L)dwell in tents,
    as in the days of the appointed feast.
10 (M)I spoke to the prophets;
    it was I who multiplied (N)visions,
    and through the prophets gave parables.
11 (O)If there is iniquity in Gilead,
    they shall surely come to nothing:
(P)in Gilgal they sacrifice bulls;
    (Q)their altars also are like stone heaps
    (R)on the furrows of the field.
12 (S)Jacob fled to the land of Aram;
    there Israel (T)served for a wife,
    and for a wife he guarded sheep.
13 By (U)a prophet (V)the Lord brought Israel up from Egypt,
    and by a prophet he was guarded.
14 (W)Ephraim has given bitter provocation;
    so his Lord (X)will leave his bloodguilt on him
    (Y)and will repay him for his disgraceful deeds.

Matthew 19:16-22

The Rich Young Man

16 (A)And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to (B)have (C)eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. (D)If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, (E)“You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honour your father and mother, and, (F)You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, (G)“All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be (H)perfect, go, (I)sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have (J)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (K)When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
