Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
My Soul Waits for God Alone
To the choirmaster: according to (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
62 For God alone (B)my soul (C)waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 (D)He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my (E)fortress; (F)I shall not be greatly shaken.
3 How long will all of you attack a man
to batter him,
like (G)a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4 They only plan to thrust him down from his (H)high position.
They take pleasure in falsehood.
(I)They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah
5 For God alone, O (J)my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 (K)He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my (L)salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, (M)my refuge is God.
8 (N)Trust in him at all times, O people;
(O)pour out your heart before him;
God is (P)a refuge for us. Selah
9 From (A)the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel;
there they have continued.
Shall not the war against the unjust[a] overtake them in Gibeah?
10 (B)When I please, (C)I will discipline them,
and nations shall be gathered against them
when they are bound up for (D)their double iniquity.
11 Ephraim was a trained calf
that (E)loved to thresh,
and I spared her fair neck;
but I will put (F)Ephraim to the yoke;
(G)Judah must plow;
Jacob must harrow for himself.
12 (H)Sow for yourselves righteousness;
reap steadfast love;
(I)break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the Lord,
that he may come and (J)rain righteousness upon you.
13 (K)You have plowed iniquity;
you have reaped injustice;
you have eaten the fruit of lies.
Because you have trusted in your own way
and in the multitude of your warriors,
14 therefore (L)the tumult of war shall arise among your people,
and all your fortresses shall be destroyed,
as (M)Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle;
(N)mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.
15 Thus it shall be done to you, O (O)Bethel,
because of your great evil.
At dawn (P)the king of Israel
shall be utterly cut off.
Warning to the Rich
5 Come now, (A)you rich, weep and howl for the (B)miseries that are coming upon you. 2 (C)Your riches have rotted and (D)your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. (E)You have laid up treasure (F)in the last days. 4 Behold, (G)the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and (H)the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of (I)the Lord of hosts. 5 (J)You have lived on the earth in luxury and (K)in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in (L)a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and (M)murdered (N)the righteous person. He does not resist you.
