Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Prosperity of One Who Fears the Lord.
112 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
(A)Blessed is a person who [c]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (B)delights in His commandments.
2 His [d](C)descendants will be mighty [e]on the earth;
The generation of the (D)upright will be blessed.
3 (E)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light shines in the darkness (F)for the upright;
He is (G)gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
5 It goes well for a person who (H)is gracious and lends;
He will [f]maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will (I)never be shaken;
The (J)righteous will be [g]remembered forever.
13 A (A)joyful heart makes a [a]cheerful face,
But [b]when the heart is (B)sad, the (C)spirit is broken.
14 The (D)mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
15 All the days of the [c]needy are bad,
But a [d]cheerful heart has a continual feast.
16 (E)Better is a little with [e]the fear of the Lord
Than great treasure, and turmoil with [f]the treasure.
17 (F)Better is a portion of [g]vegetables where there is love,
Than a (G)fattened ox served with hatred.
8 [a]To sum up, (A)all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, [b](B)loving, (C)compassionate, and (D)humble; 9 (E)not returning evil for evil or (F)insult for insult, but giving a (G)blessing instead; for (H)you were called for the very purpose that you would (I)inherit a blessing. 10 For,
“(J)The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 (K)He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
12 (L)For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”
