Psalm 32

Blessed Are the Forgiven

A Maskil[a] of David.

32 (A)Blessed is the one whose (B)transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord (C)counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit (D)there is no deceit.

For when I kept silent, my (E)bones wasted away
    through my (F)groaning all day long.
For day and night your (G)hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried up[b] as by the heat of summer. Selah

I (H)acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I (I)will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Therefore let everyone who is (J)godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you (K)may be found;
surely in the rush of (L)great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a (M)hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from (N)trouble;
    you surround me with (O)shouts of deliverance. Selah

I will (P)instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will (Q)counsel you with my eye upon you.
(R)Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    which must be curbed with (S)bit and bridle,
    or it will not stay near you.

10 (T)Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds the one who (U)trusts in the Lord.
11 (V)Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
    and (W)shout for joy, all you (X)upright in heart!

Jeremiah 25:15-29

The Cup of the Lord's Wrath

15 Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: (A)“Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. 16 They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of (B)the sword that I am sending among them.”

17 So I took the cup from the Lord's hand, (C)and made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it: 18 (D)Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and officials, (E)to make them a desolation and a waste, a hissing and a curse, as at this day; 19 (F)Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, all his people, 20 and (G)all the mixed tribes among them; all the kings of (H)the land of Uz and all the kings of (I)the land of the Philistines ((J)Ashkelon, (K)Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of (L)Ashdod); 21 (M)Edom, (N)Moab, and the sons of (O)Ammon; 22 all the kings of (P)Tyre, all the kings of (Q)Sidon, and the kings of the coastland across (R)the sea; 23 (S)Dedan, (T)Tema, (U)Buz, and all who cut (V)the corners of their hair; 24 all the (W)kings of Arabia and all the kings of (X)the mixed tribes who dwell in the desert; 25 all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of (Y)Elam, and all the kings of (Z)Media; 26 all the kings of (AA)the north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world that are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of (AB)Babylon[a] shall drink.

27 “Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (AC)Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of (AD)the sword that I am sending among you.’

28 “And if they refuse to accept the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: (AE)You must drink! 29 For behold, (AF)I begin to work disaster at the city that is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, (AG)for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the Lord of hosts.’

Acts 7:44-53

44 “Our fathers had (A)the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses (B)directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen. 45 Our fathers in turn (C)brought it in with Joshua when they (D)dispossessed the nations (E)that God drove out before our fathers. So it was (F)until the days of David, 46 (G)who found favor in the sight of God and (H)asked to find a dwelling place for (I)the God of Jacob.[a] 47 But it was (J)Solomon who built a house for him. 48 (K)Yet the Most High does not dwell (L)in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,

49 (M)“‘Heaven is my throne,
    (N)and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,
    or what is the place of my rest?
50 Did not my hand make all these things?’

51 (O)“You stiff-necked people, (P)uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. (Q)As your fathers did, so do you. 52 (R)Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of (S)the Righteous One, (T)whom you have now betrayed and murdered, 53 you who received the law (U)as delivered by angels and (V)did not keep it.”
