Psalm 119:73-80

Yodh

73 (A)Your hands have made and fashioned me;
    (B)give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
74 Those who fear you shall see me and (C)rejoice,
    because I have (D)hoped in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are (E)righteous,
    and that in (F)faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Let your steadfast love comfort me
    according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your (G)mercy come to me, that I may live;
    for your law is my (H)delight.
78 Let (I)the insolent be put to (J)shame,
    because they have (K)wronged me with falsehood;
    as for me, I will (L)meditate on your precepts.
79 Let those who fear you (M)turn to me,
    that they may know your testimonies.
80 May my heart be (N)blameless in your statutes,
    (O)that I may not be put to shame!

Jeremiah 8:4-13

Sin and Treachery

“You shall say to them, Thus says the Lord:
(A)When men fall, do they not rise again?
    If one turns away, does he not return?
Why then has this people (B)turned away
    in perpetual (C)backsliding?
(D)They hold fast to deceit;
    they refuse to return.
(E)I have paid attention and listened,
    but they have not spoken rightly;
no man relents of his evil,
    saying, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone turns to his own course,
    (F)like a horse plunging headlong into battle.
Even the stork in the heavens
    knows her times,
and (G)the turtledove, (H)swallow, and crane[a]
    keep the time of their coming,
(I)but my people know not
    the rules[b] of the Lord.

(J)“How can you say, ‘We are wise,
    and the law of the Lord is with us’?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
    has made it into a lie.
(K)The wise men shall be put to shame;
    they shall be dismayed (L)and taken;
behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord,
    so what wisdom is in them?
10 (M)Therefore I will give their wives to others
    and their fields to conquerors,
because from the least to the greatest
    everyone (N)is greedy for unjust gain;
from prophet to priest,
    everyone deals falsely.
11 They have healed (O)the wound of my people lightly,
    saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
    when there is no peace.
12 Were they ashamed when they committed abomination?
    No, (P)they were not at all ashamed;
    they did not know how to blush.
(Q)Therefore they shall fall among the fallen;
    when I punish them, they shall be overthrown,
says the Lord.
13 When I would gather them, declares the Lord,
    there are (R)no grapes on the vine,
    (S)nor figs on the fig tree;
(T)even the leaves are withered,
    and what I gave them has passed away from them.”[c]

Acts 19:28-41

28 When they heard this they were enraged and were crying out, (A)“Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29 So the city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed together into the theater, dragging with them Gaius and (B)Aristarchus, Macedonians who were Paul's (C)companions in travel. 30 But when Paul wished to go in among the crowd, the disciples would not let him. 31 And even some of the Asiarchs,[a] who were friends of his, sent to him and were urging him not to venture into the theater. 32 (D)Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together. 33 Some of the crowd prompted Alexander, whom the Jews had put forward. And Alexander, (E)motioning with his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd. 34 But when they recognized that he was a Jew, for about two hours they all cried out with one voice, (F)“Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

35 And when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, who is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Artemis, and of the sacred stone that fell from (G)the sky?[b] 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rash. 37 For you have brought (H)these men here who are neither (I)sacrilegious nor blasphemers of our goddess. 38 If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open, and there are (J)proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. 39 But if you seek anything further,[c] it shall be settled in the regular assembly. 40 For we really are in danger of being charged with rioting today, since there is no cause that we can give to justify this commotion.” 41 And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.
