God’s Promise concerning His Servant
42 “(A)Behold, My (B)Servant, whom I [a]uphold;
My (C)chosen one in whom My (D)soul delights.
I have put My (E)Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth (F)justice to the [b]nations.
2 He will not cry out nor raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.
3 A bent reed He will not break off
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth (G)justice.
4 He will not be (H)disheartened or crushed
Until He has established justice on the earth;
And the (I)coastlands will wait expectantly for His [c]law.”
5 This is what God the Lord says,
Who (J)created the heavens and (K)stretched them out,
Who spread out the (L)earth and its [d]offspring,
Who (M)gives breath to the people on it
And spirit to those who walk in it:
6 “I am the Lord, I have (N)called You in righteousness,
I will also (O)hold You by the hand and (P)watch over You,
And I will appoint You as a (Q)covenant to the people,
As a (R)light to the nations,
7 To (S)open blind eyes,
To (T)bring out prisoners from the dungeon
And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.
8 (U)I am the Lord, that is (V)My name;
I will not give My (W)glory to another,
Nor My praise to idols.
9 Behold, the (X)former things have come to pass,
Now I declare (Y)new things;
Before they sprout I proclaim them to you.”
5 Your (A)mercy, Lord, [a]extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
6 Your (B)righteousness is like the [b]mountains of God;
Your (C)judgments are like the great deep.
Lord, You [c](D)protect mankind and animals.
7 How (E)precious is Your mercy, God!
And the sons of mankind (F)take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
8 They (G)drink their fill of the [d]abundance of Your house;
And You allow them to drink from the (H)river of Your delights.
9 For the (I)fountain of life is with You;
In Your light we see light.
11 But when Christ appeared as a (A)high priest of the (B)good things [a]having come, He entered through (C)the greater and more perfect [b]tabernacle, (D)not made by hands, that is, (E)not of this creation; 12 and not through (F)the blood of goats and calves, but (G)through His own blood, He (H)entered the holy place (I)once for all time, [c]having obtained (J)eternal redemption. 13 For if (K)the blood of goats and bulls, and (L)the [d]ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the [e]cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will (M)the blood of Christ, who through [f](N)the eternal Spirit (O)offered Himself without blemish to God, (P)cleanse your conscience from (Q)dead works to serve (R)the living God?
15 For this reason (S)He is the (T)mediator of a (U)new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the violations that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been (V)called may (W)receive the promise of (X)the eternal inheritance.
Mary Anoints Jesus
12 (A)Therefore, six days before (B)the Passover, Jesus came to (C)Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they made Him a dinner there, and (D)Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 (E)Mary then took a [a]pound of very expensive (F)perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But (G)Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to [b]betray Him, *said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred [c]denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?” 6 Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he (H)kept the money box, he used to [d]steal from (I)what was put into it. 7 Therefore Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it [e]for (J)the day of My burial. 8 (K)For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”
9 The (L)large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, (M)whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because (N)on account of him (O)many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
