Psalm 105:1-15

The Lords Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 (A)Give thanks to the Lord, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make His deeds known among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
[a](E)Tell of all His [b]wonders.
Boast in His holy name;
May the (F)heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful.
Seek the Lord and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
Remember His [c](I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (J)judgments [d]spoken by His mouth,
You [e]descendants of (K)Abraham, His servant,
You sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!
He is the Lord our God;
His (N)judgments are in all the earth.

He has (O)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a (P)thousand generations,
The (Q)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His (R)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (S)confirmed it to Jacob as a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(T)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [f](U)portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a (V)few people in number,
Very few, and (W)strangers in it.
13 And they wandered from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people,
14 He (X)allowed no one to oppress them,
And He [g](Y)rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
15 (Z)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do not harm My prophets.”

Psalm 105:16-41

16 And He (A)called for a famine upon the land;
He (B)broke the whole staff of bread.
17 He (C)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was (D)sold as a slave.
18 They forced his (E)feet into shackles,
[a]He was put in irons;
19 Until the time that his (F)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord (G)refined him.
20 The (H)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
21 He (I)made him lord of his house,
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To [b]imprison his high officials [c](J)at will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 (K)Israel also came into Egypt;
So Jacob (L)lived in the land of Ham.
24 And He (M)made His people very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their enemies.

25 He (N)turned their heart to hate His people,
To (O)deal cunningly with His servants.
26 He (P)sent His servant Moses,
And (Q)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They [d](R)performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He (S)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not (T)rebel against His words.
29 He (U)turned their waters into blood,
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with (V)frogs
Even in the (W)chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and a (X)swarm of flies
And (Y)gnats invaded all their territory.
32 He [e]gave them (Z)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He also (AA)struck their vines and their fig trees,
And smashed the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and (AB)locusts came,
And creeping locusts, beyond number,
35 And they ate all the vegetation in their land,
And ate the fruit of their ground.
36 He also (AC)fatally struck all the firstborn in their land,
The (AD)first fruits of all their vigor.

37 Then He brought [f]the Israelites out with (AE)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (AF)glad when they departed,
For the (AG)dread of them had fallen upon [g]the Egyptians.
39 He spread out a (AH)cloud as a [h]covering,
And (AI)fire to illumine by night.
40 [i]They (AJ)asked, and He brought (AK)quail,
And satisfied them with the [j](AL)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [k]rock and (AM)water flowed out;
[l]It ran in the dry places like a river.

Psalm 105:42

42 For He (A)remembered His holy word
With His servant Abraham;

Numbers 14:10-24

10 (A)But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then (B)the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.

Moses Pleads for the People

11 (C)And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people be disrespectful to Me? And how long will (D)they not [a]believe in Me, despite all the signs that I have performed in their midst? 12 I will strike them with [b](E)plague and dispossess them, and I (F)will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.”

13 (G)But Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought this people up from their midst, 14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, Lord, are in the midst of this people, because (H)You, Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if You put this people to death [c]all at once, (I)then the nations who have heard of Your fame will [d]say, 16 ‘Since the Lord (J)could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’ 17 So now, please, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have declared, saying, 18 (K)The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in mercy, forgiving wrongdoing and violation of His Law; but (L)He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, (M)inflicting the [e]punishment of the fathers on the children [f]to the third and the fourth generations.’ 19 Please (N)forgive the guilt of this people in accordance with the greatness of Your mercy, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

The Lord Pardons and Rebukes

20 So the Lord said, “(O)I have forgiven them in accordance with your word; 21 however, (P)as I live, [g](Q)all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord. 22 Certainly (R)all the people who have seen My glory and My signs which I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet (S)have put Me to the test these ten times and have not listened to My voice, 23 (T)shall by no means see the land which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who were disrespectful to Me see it. 24 But as for My servant Caleb, (U)because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, (V)I will bring him into the land which he [h]entered, and his [i]descendants shall take possession of it.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Avoid Israel’s Mistakes

10 For (A)I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our fathers were all (B)under the cloud and they all (C)passed through the sea; and they all were (D)baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and they all (E)ate the same spiritual food, and all (F)drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was [a]Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased; for their dead bodies were (G)spread out in the wilderness.

Now these things happened as (H)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (I)they indeed craved them. Do not be (J)idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “(K)The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to (L)play.” Nor are we to commit sexual immorality, as (M)some of them [b]did, and (N)twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor are we to put the Lord to the test, as (O)some of them [c]did, and were killed by the snakes. 10 Nor (P)grumble, as some of them [d]did, and (Q)were killed by the (R)destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an (S)example, and (T)they were written for our instruction, upon whom (U)the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let the one who (V)thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except something common to mankind; and (W)God is faithful, [e]so He will not allow you to be (X)tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
