Psalm 105:1-15

Tell of All His Wondrous Works

105 (A)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (B)call upon his name;
    (C)make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
    (D)tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his (E)strength;
    (F)seek his presence continually!
Remember the (G)wondrous works that he has done,
    his miracles, and (H)the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of (I)Abraham, his servant,
    children of Jacob, his (J)chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
    his (K)judgments are in all the earth.
He (L)remembers his covenant forever,
    the word that he commanded, for (M)a thousand generations,
(N)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
    his (O)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (P)Jacob as a statute,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (Q)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
    as (R)your portion for an inheritance.”

12 When they were (S)few in number,
    of little account, and (T)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
    from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (U)allowed no one to oppress them;
    he (V)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (W)“Touch not my anointed ones,
    do my prophets no harm!”

Psalm 105:16-41

16 When he (A)summoned a famine on the land
    and (B)broke all supply[a] of bread,
17 he had (C)sent a man ahead of them,
    Joseph, who was (D)sold as a slave.
18 His (E)feet were hurt with fetters;
    his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (F)what he had said came to pass,
    the word of the Lord (G)tested him.
20 (H)The king sent and (I)released him;
    the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (J)made him lord of his house
    and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[b] his princes at his pleasure
    and to teach his elders wisdom.

23 Then (K)Israel came to Egypt;
    Jacob (L)sojourned in (M)the land of Ham.
24 And the Lord (N)made his people very fruitful
    and made them stronger than their foes.
25 He (O)turned their hearts to hate his people,
    to (P)deal craftily with his servants.

26 He (Q)sent Moses, his servant,
    and Aaron, (R)whom he had chosen.
27 (S)They performed his signs among them
    and miracles in (T)the land of Ham.
28 He (U)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
    they (V)did not rebel[c] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
    and (W)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
    even in (X)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (Y)swarms of flies,
    (Z)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
    and fiery (AA)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
    and (AB)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (AC)locusts came,
    young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
    and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (AD)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
    (AE)the firstfruits of all their strength.

37 Then he brought out Israel with (AF)silver and gold,
    and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (AG)Egypt was glad when they departed,
    for (AH)dread of them had fallen upon it.

39 He (AI)spread a cloud for a covering,
    and fire to give light by night.
40 (AJ)They asked, and he (AK)brought quail,
    and gave them (AL)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (AM)water gushed out;
    it flowed through (AN)the desert like a river.

Psalm 105:42

42 For he (A)remembered his holy promise,
    and (B)Abraham, his servant.

Exodus 33:1-6

The Command to Leave Sinai

33 The Lord said to Moses, “Depart; go up from here, you (A)and the people whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To (B)your offspring I will give it.’ I will send an (C)angel before you, (D)and I will drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. (E)Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; (F)but I will not go up among you, (G)lest I consume you on the way, for you are a (H)stiff-necked people.”

When the people heard this disastrous word, they (I)mourned, and (J)no one put on his ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘You are a (K)stiff-necked people; if for a single moment I should go up among you, I would (L)consume you. So now (M)take off your ornaments, that I may know what to do with you.’” Therefore the people of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments, from Mount Horeb onward.

Romans 4:1-12

Abraham Justified by Faith

What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, (A)our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but (B)not before God. For what does the Scripture say? (C)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now (D)to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but (E)believes in[a] him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

(F)“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
    and whose sins are covered;
blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not (G)count his sin.”

Is this blessing then only for (H)the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? (I)For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness. 10 How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised. 11 (J)He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was (K)to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well, 12 and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.
