Jesus Stands Before Pilate
28 Then they lead Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium[a]. And it was early-morning. And they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium in order that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover [Feast][b].
The Jewish Rulers Tell Pilate They Want Jesus Executed
29 So Pilate went outside to them. And he says, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They responded and said to him, “If this One were not doing wrong[c], we would not have handed Him over to you”. 31 So Pilate said to them, “You take Him and judge Him according to your Law”. The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful[d] for us to execute anyone”— 32 in order that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He spoke signifying[e] by what kind of death He was going to die.
