Psalm 98

The Lord Works Miracles

Sing a new song to the Lord!
    He has worked miracles,
and with his own powerful arm,
    he has won the victory.
The Lord has shown the nations
that he has the power to save
    and to bring justice.
God has been faithful
    in his love for Israel,
and his saving power is seen
    everywhere on earth.

Tell everyone on this earth
to sing happy songs
    in praise of the Lord.
Make music for him on harps.
    Play beautiful melodies!
Sound the trumpets and horns
and celebrate with joyful songs
    for our Lord and King!

Command the ocean to roar
    with all its creatures,
and the earth to shout
    with all its people.
Order the rivers
    to clap their hands,
and all the hills
    to sing together.
Let them worship the Lord!
He is coming to judge
    everyone on the earth,
and he will be honest
    and fair.

Deuteronomy 32:44-47

44-45 Moses spoke the words of the song so that all the Israelites could hear, and Joshua[a] helped him. When Moses had finished, 46 he said, “Always remember this song I have taught you today. And let it be a warning that you must teach your children to obey everything written in The Book of God's Law. 47 The Law isn't empty words. It can give you a long life in the land that you are going to take.”

Mark 10:42-45

42 (A) But Jesus called the disciples together and said:

You know that those foreigners who call themselves kings like to order their people around. And their great leaders have full power over the people they rule. 43 (B) But don't act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. 44 And if you want to be first, you must be everyone's slave. 45 (C) The Son of Man did not come to be a slave master, but a slave who will give his life to rescue[a] many people.
