Psalm 126

A Prayer for Deliverance

126 When the Lord brought us back to Jerusalem,[a]
    it was like a dream!
How we laughed, how we sang for joy!
Then the other nations said about us,
“The Lord did great things for them.”
Indeed he did great things for us;
    how happy we were!

Lord, make us prosperous again,[b]
just as the rain brings water back to dry riverbeds.
Let those who wept as they planted their crops,
    gather the harvest with joy!

Those who wept as they went out carrying the seed
will come back singing for joy,
as they bring in the harvest.

Habakkuk 2:1-5

The Lord's Answer to Habakkuk

I will climb my watchtower and wait to see what the Lord will tell me to say and what answer he[a] will give to my complaint.

The Lord gave me this answer: “Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. (A)Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed. (B)And this is the message: ‘Those who are evil will not survive,[b] but those who are righteous will live because they are faithful to God.’”

Doom on the Unrighteous

Wealth is deceitful. Greedy people are proud and restless—like death itself they are never satisfied. That is why they conquer nation after nation for themselves.

Philippians 3:7-11

But all those things that I might count as profit I now reckon as loss for Christ's sake. Not only those things; I reckon everything as complete loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable, the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have thrown everything away; I consider it all as mere garbage, so that I may gain Christ and be completely united with him. I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith. 10 All I want is to know Christ and to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings and become like him in his death, 11 in the hope that I myself will be raised from death to life.
