19 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² “Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: ^(A)‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

^9 (A)‘When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. ¹⁰ And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord your God.

^11 (B)‘You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, ^(C)nor lie to one another. ¹² And you shall not ^(D)swear by My name falsely, ^(E)nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

^13 (F)‘You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. ^(G)The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning. ¹⁴ You shall not curse the deaf, ^(H)nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

¹⁵ ‘You shall do no injustice in ^(I)judgment. You shall not ^(J)be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. ¹⁶ You shall not go about as a ^(K)talebearer among your people; nor shall you ^(L)take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

^17 (M)‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. ^(N)You shall surely ^[a]rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. ^18 (O)You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, ^(P)but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

^10 (A)According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid ^(B)the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. ¹¹ For no other foundation can anyone lay than ^(C)that which is laid, ^(D)which is Jesus Christ.

^16 (A)Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone ^[a]defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

Avoid Worldly Wisdom

^18 (B)Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ^(C)“He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; ²⁰ and again, ^(D)“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” ²¹ Therefore let no one boast in men. For ^(E)all things are yours: ²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come—all are yours. ²³ And ^(F)you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

Go the Second Mile^(A)

³⁸ “You have heard that it was said, ^(B)‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ ^39 (C)But I tell you not to resist an evil person. ^(D)But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. ⁴⁰ If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. ⁴¹ And whoever ^(E)compels you to go one mile, go with him two. ⁴² Give to him who asks you, and ^(F)from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

Love Your Enemies^(G)

⁴³ “You have heard that it was said, ^(H)‘You shall love your neighbor ^(I)and hate your enemy.’ ^44 [a]But I say to you, ^(J)love your enemies, bless those who curse you, ^(K)do good to those who hate you, and pray ^(L)for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, ⁴⁵ that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for ^(M)He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. ^46 (N)For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet your ^[b]brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the ^[c]tax collectors do so? ^48 (O)Therefore you shall be perfect, just ^(P)as your Father in heaven is perfect.
