Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 123

A Prayer for Mercy

123 Lord, I look up to you,
    up to heaven, where you rule.
As a servant depends on his master,
    as a maid depends on her mistress,
so we will keep looking to you, O Lord our God,
    until you have mercy on us.

Be merciful to us, Lord, be merciful;
    we have been treated with so much contempt.
We have been mocked too long by the rich
    and scorned by proud oppressors.

Job 20:1-11

20 1-2 Job, you upset me. Now I'm impatient to answer.
    What you have said is an insult,
    but I know how to reply to you.

Surely you know that from ancient times,
    when we humans were first placed on earth,
    no wicked people have been happy for long.
They may grow great, towering to the sky,
    so great that their heads reach the clouds,
    but they will be blown away like dust.
Those who used to know them
    will wonder where they have gone.
(A)They will vanish like a dream, like a vision at night,
    and never be seen again.
The wicked will disappear from the place where they used to live;
10     and their children will make good what they stole from the poor.
11 Their bodies used to be young and vigorous,
    but soon they will turn to dust.

2 Peter 1:16-21

Eyewitnesses of Christ's Glory

16 We have not depended on made-up stories in making known to you the mighty coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. With our own eyes we saw his greatness. 17 (A)We were there when he was given honor and glory by God the Father, when the voice came to him from the Supreme Glory, saying, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased!” 18 We ourselves heard this voice coming from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.

19 So we are even more confident of the message proclaimed by the prophets. You will do well to pay attention to it, because it is like a lamp shining in a dark place until the Day dawns and the light of the morning star shines in your hearts. 20 Above all else, however, remember that none of us can explain by ourselves a prophecy in the Scriptures. 21 For no prophetic message ever came just from the human will, but people were under the control of the Holy Spirit as they spoke the message that came from God.
