Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Blessedness of Dwelling in the House of God
To the Chief Musician. (A)On[a] an instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
84 How (B)lovely [b]is Your tabernacle,
O Lord of hosts!
2 (C)My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts,
My King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your (D)house;
They will still be praising You. Selah
The People Mourn in Judgment
17 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“Consider and call for (A)the mourning women,
That they may come;
And send for skillful wailing women,
That they may come.
18 Let them make haste
And take up a wailing for us,
That (B)our eyes may run with tears,
And our eyelids gush with water.
19 For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion:
‘How we are plundered!
We are greatly ashamed,
Because we have forsaken the land,
Because we have been cast out of (C)our dwellings.’ ”
20 Yet hear the word of the Lord, O women,
And let your ear receive the word of His mouth;
Teach your daughters wailing,
And everyone her neighbor a lamentation.
21 For death has come through our windows,
Has entered our palaces,
To kill off (D)the children—[a]no longer to be outside!
And the young men—[b]no longer on the streets!
22 Speak, “Thus says the Lord:
‘Even the carcasses of men shall fall (E)as refuse on the open field,
Like cuttings after the harvester,
And no one shall gather them.’ ”
23 Thus says the Lord:
(F)“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his (G)might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24 But (H)let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, [c]judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
(I)For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
25 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “that (J)I will punish all who are circumcised with the uncircumcised— 26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, and all who are in the (K)farthest corners, who dwell in the wilderness. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are (L)uncircumcised in the heart.”
The Man of God and the Word of God
10 (A)But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me (B)at Antioch, (C)at Iconium, (D)at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And (E)out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and (F)all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 (G)But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must (H)continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known (I)the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
