Psalm 106:1-6

Psalm 106

Israel’s Unfaithfulness to God

Hallelujah!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.(A)
Who can declare the Lord’s mighty acts
or proclaim all the praise due him?(B)
How happy are those who uphold justice,
who practice righteousness at all times.(C)

Remember me, Lord,
when you show favor to your people.(D)
Come to me with your salvation
so that I may enjoy the prosperity
of your chosen ones,
rejoice in the joy of your nation,
and boast about your heritage.(E)

Both we and our ancestors have sinned;
we have done wrong and have acted wickedly.(F)

Psalm 106:13-23

13 They soon forgot his works
and would not wait for his counsel.(A)
14 They were seized with craving in the wilderness
and tested God in the desert.(B)
15 He gave them what they asked for,
but sent a wasting disease among them.(C)

16 In the camp they were envious of Moses
and of Aaron, the Lord’s holy one.(D)
17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;
it covered the assembly of Abiram.(E)
18 Fire blazed throughout their assembly;
flames consumed the wicked.(F)

19 At Horeb they made a calf
and worshiped the cast metal image.(G)
20 They exchanged their glory[a][b]
for the image of a grass-eating ox.(H)
21 They forgot God their Savior,
who did great things in Egypt,(I)
22 wondrous works in the land of Ham,[c]
awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea.(J)
23 So he said he would have destroyed them—
if Moses his chosen one
had not stood before him in the breach
to turn his wrath away from destroying them.(K)

Psalm 106:47-48

47 Save us, Lord our God,
and gather us from the nations,
so that we may give thanks to your holy name
and rejoice in your praise.(A)

48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.(B)
Let all the people say, “Amen!”
Hallelujah!(C)

Deuteronomy 4:15-20

Worshiping the True God

15 “Diligently watch yourselves—because you did not see any form on the day the Lord spoke to you out of the fire at Horeb— 16 so you don’t act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of any figure: a male or female form, 17 or the form of any animal on the earth, any winged creature that flies in the sky, 18 any creature that crawls on the ground, or any fish in the waters under the earth. 19 When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars—all the stars in the sky—do not be led astray to bow in worship to them and serve them.(A) The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.(B) 20 But the Lord selected you and brought you out of Egypt’s iron furnace(C) to be a people for his inheritance, as you are today.

1 Peter 2:19-25

19 For it brings favor if, because of a consciousness of God, someone endures grief from suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is there if when you do wrong and are beaten, you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer,(A) if you endure it, this brings favor with God.

21 For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered(B) for you, leaving you an example,(C) that you should follow(D) in his steps. 22 He did not commit sin,(E) and no deceit(F) was found in his mouth;[a](G) 23 when he was insulted, he did not insult in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges(H) justly. 24 He himself bore our sins(I) in his body(J) on the tree;(K) so that, having died to sins,(L) we might live for righteousness.(M) By his wounds[b](N) you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray,[c](O) but you have now returned to the Shepherd(P) and Overseer[d] of your souls.
