Version
Psalm 34:9-14

You who are his holy ones, fear the Lord,
for those who fear him lack nothing.(A)
10 Young lions[a] lack food and go hungry,(B)
but those who seek the Lord
will not lack any good thing.(C)

11 Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.(D)
12 Who is someone who desires life,
loving a long life to enjoy what is good?(E)
13 Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from deceitful speech.(F)
14 Turn away from evil and do what is good;(G)
seek peace and pursue it.(H)

Job 13:1-19

13 Look, my eyes have seen all this;
my ears(A) have heard and understood it.
Everything you know, I also know;
I am not inferior to you.(B)
Yet I prefer to speak to the Almighty
and argue my case before God.(C)
You use lies like plaster;
you are all worthless healers.(D)
If only you would shut up
and let that be your wisdom!

Hear now my argument,
and listen to my defense.[a]
Would you testify unjustly on God’s behalf
or speak deceitfully for him?
Would you show partiality(E) to him
or argue the case in his defense?
Would it go well if he examined you?
Could you deceive him as you would deceive a man?(F)
10 Surely he would rebuke you
if you secretly showed partiality.
11 Would God’s majesty not terrify you?(G)
Would his dread not fall on you?
12 Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ash;(H)
your defenses are made of clay.

13 Be quiet,[b] and I will speak.
Let whatever comes happen to me.
14 I will put[c] myself at risk[d]
and take my life in my own hands.
15 Even if he kills me, I will hope in him.[e]
I will still defend(I) my ways before him.
16 Yes, this will result in my deliverance,
for no godless person(J) can appear before him.
17 Pay close attention to my words;
let my declaration ring in your ears.
18 Now then, I have prepared my case;(K)
I know that I am right.
19 Can anyone indict me?
If so, I will be silent and die.

John 4:7-26

A woman of Samaria came to draw water.(A)

“Give me a drink,” Jesus said to her, because his disciples had gone into town to buy food.

“How is it that you, a Jew,(B) ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan(C) woman?” she asked him. For Jews do not associate with[a] Samaritans.[b]

10 Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God,(D) and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”(E)

11 “Sir,”(F) said the woman, “you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this ‘living water’? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Jacob,(G) are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock.”

13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again.(H) In fact, the water I will give him will become a well[c](I) of water springing up in him for eternal life.”(J)

15 “Sir,” the woman said to him, “give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and come here to draw water.”

16 “Go call your husband,” he told her, “and come back here.”

17 “I don’t have a husband,” she answered.

“You have correctly said, ‘I don’t have a husband,’” Jesus said. 18 “For you’ve had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”

19 “Sir,” the woman replied, “I see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain,(K) but you Jews say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”(L)

21 Jesus told her, “Believe me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews.(M) 23 But an hour is coming, and is now here,(N) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.[d] Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit,(O) and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”(P)

25 The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah(Q) is coming” (who is called Christ(R)). “When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Jesus told her, “I, the one speaking to you, am he.”(S)
