1 Kings 8:22-23

Solomon’s Prayer(A)

22 In the presence of the entire assembly of Israel, Solomon stood in front of Yahweh’s altar. He stretched out his hands toward heaven 23 and said,

Yahweh Elohim of Israel,
there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth below.
You keep your promise[a] of mercy to your servants,
    who obey you wholeheartedly.

1 Kings 8:41-43

41 “People will hear about your great name,
    mighty hand, and powerful arm.[a]
So when people who are not Israelites
come from distant countries because of your name
42 to pray facing this temple,
43 hear them in heaven, the place where you live.
    Do everything they ask you
so that all the people of the world may know your name
and fear you like your people Israel
and learn also that this temple which I built bears your name.

Psalm 96:1-9

Psalm 96

Sing to Yahweh a new song!
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth!
Sing to Yahweh! Praise his name!
Day after day announce that Yahweh saves his people.
        Tell people about his glory.
Tell all the nations about his miracles.

Yahweh is great!
    He should be highly praised.
He should be feared more than all other gods
because all the gods of the nations are idols.
    Yahweh made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are in his presence.
Strength and beauty are in his holy place.

Give to Yahweh, you families of the nations.
Give to Yahweh glory and power.
Give to Yahweh the glory he deserves.
Bring an offering, and come into his courtyards.
Worship Yahweh in his holy splendor.
Tremble in his presence, all the earth!

Galatians 1:1-12

Greeting

From Paul—an apostle chosen not by any group or individual but by Yeshua Christ and God the Father who brought him back to life— and all the believers who are with me.

To the churches in Galatia.

Good will[a] and peace are yours from God the Father and our Lord Yeshua Christ! In order to free us from this present evil world, Christ took the punishment for our sins, because that was what our God and Father wanted. Glory belongs to our God and Father forever! Amen.

Follow the Good News We Gave You

I’m surprised that you’re so quickly deserting Christ, who called you in his kindness,[b] to follow a different kind of good news. But what some people are calling good news is not really good news at all. They are confusing you. They want to distort the Good News about Christ. Whoever tells you good news that is different from the Good News we gave you should be condemned to hell, even if he is one of us or an angel from heaven. I’m now telling you again what we’ve told you in the past: If anyone tells you good news that is different from the Good News you received, that person should be condemned to hell.

10 Am I saying this now to win the approval of people or God? Am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Jesus Alone Gave Paul the Good News He Spreads

11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the Good News I have spread is not a human message. 12 I didn’t receive it from any person. I wasn’t taught it, but Yeshua Christ revealed it to me.

Luke 7:1-10

A Believing Army Officer(A)

When Yeshua had finished everything he wanted to say to the people, he went to Capernaum. There a Roman army officer’s valuable slave was sick and near death. The officer had heard about Yeshua and sent some Jewish leaders to him. They were to ask Yeshua to come and save the servant’s life. They came to Yeshua and begged, “He deserves your help. He loves our people and built our synagogue at his own expense.”

Yeshua went with them. He was not far from the house when the officer sent friends to tell Yeshua, “Sir, don’t bother. I don’t deserve to have you come into my house. That’s why I didn’t come to you. But just give a command, and let my servant be cured. As you know, I’m in a chain of command and have soldiers at my command. I tell one of them, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and another, ‘Come!’ and he comes. I tell my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”

Yeshua was amazed at the officer when he heard these words. He turned to the crowd following him and said, “I can guarantee that I haven’t found faith as great as this in Israel.”

10 When the men who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant healthy again.
