Prayer for Vindication

Davidic.

Vindicate me, Lord,
because I have lived with integrity
and have trusted in the Lord without wavering.(A)
Test me, Lord, and try me;
examine my heart and mind.(B)
For Your faithful love is before my eyes,
and I live by Your truth.(C)

I do not sit with the worthless
or associate with hypocrites.
I hate a crowd of evildoers,
and I do not sit with the wicked.(D)
I wash my hands[a] in innocence(E)
and go around Your altar, Lord,(F)
raising my voice in thanksgiving(G)
and telling about Your wonderful works.(H)

Lord, I love the house where You dwell,
the place where Your glory resides.(I)
Do not destroy me along with sinners,
or my life along with men of bloodshed(J)
10 in whose hands are evil schemes
and whose right hands are filled with bribes.(K)

11 But I live with integrity;
redeem me and be gracious to me.(L)
12 My foot stands on level ground;(M)
I will praise the Lord in the assemblies.(N)

Obadiah 17-21

17 But there will be a deliverance on Mount Zion,(A)
and it will be holy;(B)
the house of Jacob will dispossess(C)
those who dispossessed them.[a](D)
18 Then the house of Jacob will be a blazing fire,(E)
and the house of Joseph, a burning flame,
but the house of Esau will be stubble;
Jacob[b] will set them on fire and consume Edom.[c]
Therefore no survivor will remain(F)
of the house of Esau,
for the Lord has spoken.

Future Blessing for Israel

19 People from the Negev will possess(G)
the hill country of Esau;(H)
those from the Judean foothills will possess
the land of the Philistines.(I)
They[d] will possess
the territories of Ephraim and Samaria,(J)
while Benjamin will possess Gilead.
20 The exiles of the Israelites who are in Halah[e]
and who are among the Canaanites as far as Zarephath(K)
as well as the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
will possess the cities of the Negev.(L)
21 Saviors[f] will ascend Mount Zion(M)
to rule over the hill country of Esau,
but the kingdom will be the Lord’s.(N)

Luke 16:19-31

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen,(A) feasting lavishly every day. 20 But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was left at his gate.(B) 21 He longed to be filled(C) with what fell from the rich man’s table,(D) but instead the dogs(E) would come and lick his sores. 22 One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side.[a](F) The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torment(G) in Hades,(H) he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side. 24 ‘Father Abraham!’(I) he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony(J) in this flame!’

25 “‘Son,’[b] Abraham said, ‘remember that during your life you received your good things,(K) just as Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here,(L) while you are in agony. 26 Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’

27 “‘Father,’ he said, ‘then I beg you to send him to my father’s house— 28 because I have five brothers—to warn(M) them, so they won’t also come to this place of torment.’

29 “But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets;(N) they should listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said. ‘But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “But he told him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.’”(O)
