Psalm 6

Yahweh, Rescue My Soul

For the choir director. With stringed instruments. According to the [a]Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

O Yahweh, (A)do not reprove me in Your anger,
Nor discipline me in Your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am (B)pining away;
(C)Heal me, O Yahweh, for (D)my bones are dismayed.
And my (E)soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O Yahweh—(F)how long?

Return, O Yahweh, (G)rescue my [b]soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
For (H)there is no remembrance of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?

I am (I)weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I flood my couch with (J)my tears.
My (K)eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.

(L)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,
For Yahweh (M)has heard the sound of my weeping.
Yahweh (N)has heard my supplication,
Yahweh (O)receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will (P)be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
They shall [c]turn back, they will (Q)suddenly be ashamed.

Job 30:16-31

16 “And now (A)my soul is poured out [a]within me;
Days of affliction have seized me.
17 At night it pierces (B)my bones [b]within me,
And my gnawing pains take no rest.
18 By a great force my garment is (C)distorted;
It seizes me about as the collar of my tunic.
19 He has cast me into the (D)mire,
And I have become like dust and ashes.
20 I (E)cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me;
I stand up, and You carefully consider how to be against me.
21 You have [c]become cruel to me;
With the might of Your hand You (F)hunted me down.
22 You (G)lift me up to the wind and cause me to ride;
And You melt me away in a storm.
23 For I know that You (H)will bring me to death
And to the (I)house of meeting for all living.

24 “Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand,
Or, in his upheaval, is there a (J)cry for help because of them?
25 Have I not (K)wept for the [d]one whose life is hard?
Was not my soul grieved for (L)the needy?
26 When I (M)hoped for good, then evil came;
When I waited for light, (N)then thick darkness came.
27 [e]I am boiling (O)within and cannot be silent;
Days of affliction confront me.
28 I go about (P)darkened but not by the sun;
I stand up in the assembly and (Q)cry out for help.
29 I have become a brother to (R)jackals
And a companion of ostriches.
30 My (S)skin turns black [f]on me,
And my (T)bones burn with [g]fever.
31 Therefore my (U)harp [h]is turned to mourning,
And my flute to the sound of those who weep.

John 4:46-54

Jesus Heals a Royal Official’s Son

46 Then He came again to (A)Cana of Galilee (B)where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at (C)Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come (D)out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was asking Him to come down and heal his son; for he was about to die. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see [a](E)signs and (F)wonders, you will never believe.” 49 The royal official *said to Him, “[b]Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus *said to him, (G)Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. 51 And while he was still going down, his slaves met him, saying that his [c]son was alive. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the [d]seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and (H)his whole household. 54 This is again a (I)second [e]sign that Jesus did when He had (J)come out of Judea into Galilee.
