Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Childlike Trust in the Lord.
A Song of Ascents, of David.
131 Lord, my heart is not (A)proud, nor my eyes (B)arrogant;
Nor do I [a]involve myself in (C)great matters,
Or in things (D)too [b]difficult for me.
2 I have certainly (E)soothed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned (F)child resting [c]against his mother,
My soul [d]within me is like a weaned child.
3 Israel, (G)wait for the Lord
(H)From this time on and forever.
22 (A)Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,
But those who deal faithfully are His delight.
23 A (B)prudent person conceals knowledge,
But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.
24 The hand of the diligent will rule,
But the [a]lazy hand will be (C)put to forced labor.
25 (D)Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
But a (E)good word makes it glad.
26 The righteous person is a guide to his neighbor,
But the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 [b]A lazy person does not [c]roast his prey,
But the (F)precious possession of a person is diligence.
28 (G)In the way of righteousness there is life,
And in its pathway there is no death.
Timothy and Epaphroditus
19 But I hope, [a]in the Lord Jesus, to (A)send (B)Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition. 20 For I have no one else (C)of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare. 21 For they all (D)seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know (E)of his proven character, that (F)he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel (G)like a child serving his father. 23 (H)Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me; 24 and (I)I trust in the Lord that I myself will also be coming shortly.
