Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
18 (A)“You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and (B)you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 20 (C)You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 (D)that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, (E)as long as the heavens are above the earth.
26 (A)“See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 (B)the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, 28 and (C)the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, (D)to go after other gods that you have not known.
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
(A)in the sight of the children of mankind!
20 In (B)the cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you (C)store them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.
The Righteous Shall Live by Faith
16 For (A)I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is (B)the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew (C)first and also to (D)the Greek. 17 For in it (E)the righteousness of God is revealed (F)from faith for faith,[a] (G)as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”[b]
22 the righteousness of God (A)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. (B)For there is no distinction: 23 for (C)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 (D)and are justified (E)by his grace as a gift, (F)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God (G)put forward as (H)a propitiation (I)by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in (J)his divine forbearance he had passed over (K)former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27 (L)Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith (M)apart from works of the law.
I Never Knew You
21 (A)“Not everyone who (B)says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will (C)enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who (D)does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 (E)On that day (F)many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not (G)prophesy in your name, and cast out demons (H)in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 (I)And then will I declare to them, ‘I (J)never knew you; (K)depart from me, (L)you workers of lawlessness.’
Build Your House on the Rock
24 (M)“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like (N)a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like (O)a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
The Authority of Jesus
28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, (P)the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 (Q)for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
