Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
31 (A)In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never (B)be ashamed;
(C)In Your righteousness protect me.
2 (D)Incline Your ear to me, deliver me quickly;
Be to me a (E)rock of [a]strength,
A fortress to save me.
3 For You are my [b](F)high rock and my fortress;
For (G)Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.
4 You will (H)bring me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my (I)strength.
5 (J)Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have (K)ransomed me, O Yahweh, (L)God of truth.
19 How great is Your (A)goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have worked for those who (B)take refuge in You,
(C)Before the sons of men!
20 You hide them in the (D)secret place of Your presence from the (E)conspiracies of man;
You keep them secretly in a [a]shelter from the (F)strife of tongues.
21 (G)Blessed be Yahweh,
For He has made (H)marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged (I)city.
22 As for me, (J)I said in my alarm,
“I am (K)cut off from before Your eyes”;
Nevertheless, You (L)heard the voice of my supplications
When I cried to You for help.
6 Thus says Yahweh,
“For three transgressions of (A)Israel and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they (B)sell the righteous for money
And the needy for a pair of sandals.
7 These who [a]pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the (C)poor
Also (D)turn aside the way of the humble;
And a (E)man and his father go to the same [b]young woman
In order to profane My holy name.
8 On garments (F)taken as pledges they stretch out beside (G)every altar,
And in the house of their God they (H)drink the wine of those who have been fined.
9 “Yet it was I who destroyed the (I)Amorite before them,
[c]Though his (J)height was like the height of cedars,
And he was strong as the oaks;
I even destroyed his (K)fruit above and his root below.
10 And it was I who (L)brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And I led you in the wilderness (M)forty years
[d]That you might take possession of the land of the (N)Amorite.
11 Then I (O)raised up some of your sons to be prophets
And some of your choice men to be (P)Nazirites.
Is this not so, O sons of Israel?” declares Yahweh.
Judging Others
7 “(A)Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and (B)with what measure you measure, it will be measured to you. 3 And why do you (C)look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 (D)Or how [a]can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
6 “(E)Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
