Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
19 (A)Oh, how great is Your goodness,
Which You have laid up for those who fear You,
Which You have prepared for those who trust in You
In the presence of the sons of men!
20 (B)You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence
From the plots of man;
(C)You shall keep them secretly in a [a]pavilion
From the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord,
For (D)He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a [b]strong city!
22 For I said in my haste,
“I am cut off from before Your eyes”;
Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications
When I cried out to You.
23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints!
For the Lord preserves the faithful,
And fully repays the proud person.
24 (E)Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the Lord.
The Blessing of Returning to God
30 “Now (A)it shall come to pass, when (B)all these things come upon you, the blessing and the (C)curse which I have set before you, and (D)you [a]call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you, 2 and you (E)return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, 3 (F)that the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and (G)gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you. 4 (H)If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you. 5 Then the Lord your God will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers.
Israel’s Rejection and God’s Purpose(A)
6 (B)But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For (C)they are not all Israel who are of Israel, 7 (D)nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, (E)“In Isaac your seed shall be called.” 8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but (F)the children of the promise are counted as the seed. 9 For this is the word of promise: (G)“At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”
10 And not only this, but when (H)Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac 11 (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of (I)Him who calls), 12 it was said to her, (J)“The older shall serve the younger.” 13 As it is written, (K)“Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”
