Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
31 1 David delivered from some great danger, first rehearseth what meditation he had by the power of faith, when death was before his eyes, his enemy being ready to take him. 15 Then he affirmeth that the favor of God is always ready to those that fear him. 20 Finally he exhorteth all the faithful to trust in God and to love him, because he preserveth and strengtheneth them, as they may see by his example.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 In (A)thee, O Lord, have I put my trust: let me never be confounded: deliver me in thy [a]righteousness.
2 Bow down thine ear to me: make haste to deliver me: be unto me a strong rock, and an house of defense to save me.
3 For thou art my rock and my fortress: therefore for thy Name’s sake direct me and guide me.
4 Draw me out of the [b]net, that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
5 Into thine [c]hand I commend my spirit: for thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
19 How great is thy goodness, which thou [a]hast laid up for them that fear thee! and done to them that trust in thee, even before the sons of men!
20 Thou dost hide them [b][c]privily in thy presence from the pride of men: thou keepest them secretly in thy Tabernacle from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord: for he hath showed his marvelous kindness toward me in a [d]strong city.
22 Though I said in mine [e]haste, I am cast out of thy sight, yet thou heardest the voice of my prayer, when I cried unto thee.
23 Love ye the Lord all his [f]Saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and rewardeth abundantly the proud doer.
24 All ye that trust in the Lord, be [g]strong, and he shall establish your heart.
24 3 The people promise to obey God. 4 Moses writeth the civil Laws. 9, 13 Moses returneth into the mountain. 14 Aaron and Hur have the charge of the people. 18 Moses was forty days and forty nights in the mountain.
1 Now he had [a]said unto Moses, Come up to the Lord, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the Elders of Israel, and ye shall worship afar off.
2 And Moses himself alone shall come near to the Lord, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him.
3 ¶ [b]Afterward Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the [c]Laws: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, (A)All the things which the Lord hath said, will we do.
4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord and rose up early, and set up an (B)altar [d]under the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
5 And he sent young [e]men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings of beeves, and sacrificed peace offerings unto the Lord.
6 Then Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 After, he took the [f]book of the covenant, and read it in the audience of the people: who said, All that the Lord hath said, we will do, and be obedient.
8 Then Moses took the (C)blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the [g]blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these things.
17 ¶ [a]Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the Law, and gloriest in God,
18 And knowest his will, and [b][c]triest the things that dissent from it, in that thou art instructed by the Law:
19 And persuadest thyself that thou art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20 An instructor of them which lack discretion, a teacher of the unlearned, which hast the [d]form of knowledge, and of the truth in the [e]law.
21 Thou therefore, which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest, A man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22 Thou that sayest, A man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, committest thou sacrilege?
23 Thou that gloriest in the Law, through breaking the Law, dishonorest thou God?
24 For the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, (A)as it is written.
25 [f]For circumcision verily is profitable, if thou do the Law: but if thou be a transgressor of the Law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 Therefore [g]if the uncircumcision keep the ordinances of the Law, shall not his [h]uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 And shall not [i]uncircumcision which is by nature (if it keep the Law) condemn thee which by the [j]letter and circumcision art a transgressor of the Law?
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one [k]outward: neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew which is one within, and the circumcision is of the heart, in the [l]spirit, not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.
