My Stronghold

Davidic.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom should I fear?(A)
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom should I be afraid?(B)
When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh,(C)
my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.(D)
Though an army deploys against me,
my heart is not afraid;
though a war breaks out against me,
still I am confident.(E)

I have asked one thing from the Lord;
it is what I desire:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,(F)
gazing on the beauty of the Lord(G)
and seeking Him in His temple.(H)
For He will conceal me in His shelter
in the day of adversity;
He will hide me under the cover of His tent;
He will set me high on a rock.(I)
Then my head will be high
above my enemies around me;(J)
I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy.(K)
I will sing and make music to the Lord.(L)

Lord, hear my voice when I call;
be gracious to me and answer me.(M)
My heart says this about You,
“You[a] are to seek My face.”
Lord, I will seek Your face.(N)
Do not hide Your face from me;(O)
do not turn Your servant away in anger.(P)
You have been my helper;(Q)
do not leave me or abandon me,
God of my salvation.
10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord cares for me.(R)

11 Because of my adversaries,
show me Your way, Lord,
and lead me on a level path.(S)
12 Do not give me over to the will of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing violence.(T)

13 I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness
in the land of the living.(U)
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong[b] and courageous.(V)
Wait for the Lord.(W)

Isaiah 26:7-15

God’s People Vindicated

The path of the righteous is level;(A)
You clear a straight path for the righteous.
Yes, Yahweh, we wait for You
in the path of Your judgments.
Our desire is for Your name and renown.(B)
I long for You in the night;(C)
yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks You,
for when Your judgments are in the land,
the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
10 But if the wicked man is shown favor,
he does not learn righteousness.
In a righteous land he acts unjustly
and does not see the majesty of the Lord.

11 Lord, Your hand is lifted up to take action,
but they do not see it.
They will see Your zeal for Your people,
and they will be put to shame.
The fire for Your adversaries will consume them!
12 Lord, You will establish peace for us,
for You have also done all our work for us.
13 Yahweh our God, lords other than You have ruled over us,
but we remember Your name alone.(D)

14 The dead do not live;
departed spirits do not rise up.
Indeed, You have visited and destroyed them;
You have wiped out all memory of them.(E)
15 You have added to the nation, Lord.(F)
You have added to the nation; You are honored.
You have expanded all the borders of the land.(G)

Acts 2:37-42

Forgiveness through the Messiah

37 When they heard this, they came under deep conviction[a] and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Brothers, what must we do?”(A)

38 “Repent,”(B) Peter said to them, “and be baptized,(C) each of you, in the name(D) of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off,[b](E) as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt[c] generation!”(F)

A Generous and Growing Church

41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching,(G) to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.(H)
