Psalm 7

The Lord Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.

A [a]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord [b]concerning Cush, a Benjaminite.

O Lord my God, (A)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (B)rescue me,
Or he will tear [c]my soul (C)like a lion,
Dragging me away, while there is no one to rescue me.

O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is (D)injustice in my hands,
If I have (E)done evil to [d]my friend,
Or have (F)plundered [e]my enemy for no reason,
Let the enemy pursue [f]my soul and overtake [g]it;
And let him trample my life to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. Selah

(G)Arise, Lord, in Your anger;
(H)Raise Yourself against (I)the rage of my enemies,
And (J)stir Yourself [h]for me; You have ordered judgment.
Let the assembly of the (K)peoples encompass You,
And return on high over it.
The Lord (L)judges the peoples;
[i](M)Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
Please let (N)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (O)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (P)puts hearts and [j]minds to the test.
10 My (Q)shield is [k]with God,
Who (R)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (S)righteous judge,
And a God who (T)shows indignation every day.

12 If one (U)does not repent, He will (V)sharpen His sword;
He has (W)bent His bow and taken aim.
13 He has also prepared deadly weapons for Himself;
He makes His (X)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, an evil person is pregnant with injustice,
And he (Y)conceives harm and gives birth to lies.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (Z)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (AA)harm will return on his own head,
And his (AB)violence will descend on the top of his own head.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord (AC)according to His righteousness
And will (AD)sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Ezekiel 33:7-20

“Now as for you, son of man, I have [a](A)appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a [b]message from My mouth and give them a (B)warning from Me. When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will (C)certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will [c]require his blood from your hand. But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he (D)does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have (E)saved your life.

10 “Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what you have [d]said: “Surely our offenses and our sins are upon us, and we are (F)rotting away in them; (G)how then can we [e]survive?”’ 11 Say to them, ‘(H)As I live!’ declares the Lord [f]God, ‘I take (I)no pleasure at all in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked (J)turn from his way and live. (K)Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then should you die, house of Israel?’ 12 And you, son of man, say to [g]your fellow citizens, ‘The (L)righteousness of a righteous one will not save him on the day of his offense, and as for the wickedness of a wicked one, he will (M)not stumble because of it on the day when he turns from his wickedness; whereas a righteous one will not be able to live [h]by his righteousness on the day when he commits sin.’ 13 When I say to the righteous that he will certainly live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he (N)commits injustice, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but for that same injustice of his which he has committed he will die. 14 But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will certainly die,’ and he (O)turns from his sin and practices (P)justice and righteousness, 15 if a wicked person returns a pledge, (Q)pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the (R)statutes [i]which ensure life without committing injustice, he shall certainly live; he shall not die. 16 (S)None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall certainly live.

17 “Yet [j]your fellow citizens say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right,’ when it is their own way that is not right. 18 When the righteous turns from his righteousness and (T)commits injustice, then he shall die in [k]it. 19 But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them. 20 Yet you say, ‘(U)The way of the Lord is not right.’ I will judge each of you according to his ways, house of Israel.”

John 5:19-40

19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (A)the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever [a]the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same way. 20 (B)For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him (C)greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and (D)gives them life, so (E)the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but (F)He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (G)The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and (H)believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and (I)does not come into judgment, but has (J)passed out of death into life.

Two Resurrections

25 Truly, truly, I say to you, [b](K)a time is coming and [c]even now has arrived, when (L)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who (M)hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He (N)gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to (O)execute judgment, because He is [d]the Son of Man. 28 Do not be amazed at this; for [e](P)a time is coming when (Q)all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come out: (R)those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the bad deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

30 (S)I can do nothing [f]on My own. As I hear, I judge; and (T)My judgment is [g]righteous, because I do not seek My own will but (U)the will of Him who sent Me.

31 (V)If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not [h]true. 32 There is (W)another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.

Testimony of John the Baptist

33 You have sent messengers to John, and he (X)has testified to the truth. 34 But (Y)the testimony I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was (Z)the lamp that was burning and shining, and you (AA)were willing to rejoice for [i]a while in his light.

Testimony of Works

36 But the testimony I have is greater than the testimony of John; for (AB)the works which the Father has given Me (AC)to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father (AD)has sent Me.

Testimony of the Father

37 And the Father who sent Me, (AE)He has testified about Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 Also you do not have (AF)His word remaining in you, because you do not believe Him whom He (AG)sent.

Testimony of the Scripture

39 [j](AH)You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is (AI)those very Scriptures that testify about Me; 40 and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
