Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 63
Praise God Who Satisfies
A Davidic psalm. When he was in the Wilderness of Judah.(A)
1 God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
I thirst for You;
my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.(B)
2 So I gaze on You in the sanctuary
to see Your strength and Your glory.(C)
3 My lips will glorify You
because Your faithful love is better than life.(D)
4 So I will praise You as long as I live;
at Your name, I will lift up my hands.(E)
5 You satisfy me as with rich food;[a](F)
my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.(G)
9 Proclaim this among the nations:(A)
Prepare for holy war;(B)
rouse the warriors;(C)
let all the men of war advance and attack!
10 Beat your plows into swords
and your pruning knives into spears.(D)
Let even the weakling say, “I am a warrior.”
11 Come quickly,[a] all you surrounding nations;
gather yourselves.(E)
Bring down Your warriors there, Lord.(F)
12 Let the nations be roused
and come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat,
for there I will sit down
to judge all the surrounding nations.(G)
13 Swing the sickle
because the harvest is ripe.(H)
Come and trample the grapes
because the winepress is full;(I)
the wine vats overflow
because the wickedness of the nations is great.(J)
14 Multitudes, multitudes(K)
in the valley of decision!
For the Day of the Lord is near(L)
in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will grow dark,
and the stars will cease their shining.(M)
16 The Lord will roar from Zion(N)
and raise His voice from Jerusalem;(O)
heaven and earth will shake.(P)
But the Lord will be a refuge for His people,(Q)
a stronghold for the Israelites.(R)
Israel Blessed
17 Then you will know
that I am Yahweh your God,(S)
who dwells in Zion, My holy mountain.(T)
Jerusalem will be holy,(U)
and foreigners will never overrun it again.(V)
18 In that day
the mountains will drip with sweet wine,(W)
and the hills will flow with milk.(X)
All the streams of Judah will flow with water,(Y)
and a spring will issue from the Lord’s house,(Z)
watering the Valley of Acacias.[b](AA)
19 Egypt will become desolate,
and Edom a desert wasteland,
because of the violence done to the people of Judah(AB)
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
20 But Judah will be inhabited forever,(AC)
and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
21 I will pardon their bloodguilt,[c](AD)
which I have not pardoned,
for the Lord dwells in Zion.
The Coming of the Son of Man
29 “Immediately after the tribulation(A) of those days:
The sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not shed its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the celestial powers will be shaken.
30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth[a] will mourn;[b] and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.(B) 31 He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet,(C) and they will gather His elect from the four winds,(D) from one end of the sky to the other.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn this parable(E) from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize[c] that He[d] is near—at the door!(F) 34 I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.(G) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away,(H) but My words will never pass away.(I)
