Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Prayer for Help against Persecutors.
For the music director. A Psalm of David; for a memorial.
6 “But I gave you also (A)cleanness of teeth in all your cities,
And lack of bread in all your places;
Yet you have (B)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
7 “Furthermore, I (C)withheld the rain from you
While there were still three months until harvest.
Then I would send rain on one city,
But on (D)another city I would not send rain;
One part would be rained on,
While the part not rained on would dry up.
8 So the people of two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink (E)water,
But would (F)not be satisfied;
Yet you have (G)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
9 “I (H)struck you with scorching wind and mildew;
The (I)caterpillar was devouring
Your many gardens and vineyards, fig trees and olive trees;
Yet you have (J)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
10 “I sent a (K)plague among you [a]as in Egypt;
I (L)killed your young men with the sword, along with your (M)captured horses,
And I made the (N)stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils;
Yet you have (O)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
11 “I overthrew you, as (P)God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a (Q)log snatched from a fire;
Yet you have (R)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
12 “Therefore so I will do to you, Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to (S)meet your God, Israel.”
13 For behold, He who (T)forms mountains and (U)creates the wind,
And (V)declares to a person what are His thoughts,
He who (W)makes dawn into darkness
And (X)treads on the high places of the earth,
(Y)The Lord God of armies is His name.
Signs of Christ’s Return
24 (A)Jesus (B)left the temple area and was going on His way [a]when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2 But He responded and said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, (C)not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”
3 And as He was sitting on (D)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of (E)Your coming, and of the [b]end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “(F)See to it that no one [c]misleads you. 5 For (G)many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the [d]Christ,’ and they will [e]mislead many people. 6 And you will be hearing of (H)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 For (I)nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (J)famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 (K)But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.
9 “(L)Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and (M)you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 And at that time many will [f](N)fall away, and they will [g]betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (O)false prophets will rise up and [h]mislead many people. 12 And because lawlessness is increased, [i]most people’s love will become cold. 13 (P)But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved. 14 This (Q)gospel of the kingdom (R)shall be preached in the whole [j](S)world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
