Leviticus 19:1-2

Parashat Kedoshim

Holiness Code

19 Adonai spoke to Moses saying: “Speak to all the congregation of Bnei-Yisrael and tell them: You shall be kedoshim, for I, Adonai your God, am holy.

Leviticus 19:15-18

15 “You are to do no injustice in judgment. You are not to be partial toward the poor nor show favoritism toward the great, but you are to judge your neighbor with fairness.

16 “You are not to go up and down as a talebearer among your people. You are not to endanger the life of your neighbor. I am Adonai.

17 “You are not to hate your brother in your heart. Instead, you are to firmly rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18 You are not to take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.[a] I am Adonai.

Psalm 1

Torah Is a Tree of Wisdom

Psalm 1

Happy is the one who has not walked in the advice of the wicked,
nor stood in the way of sinners,
nor sat in the seat of scoffers.
But his delight is in the Torah of Adonai,
and on His Torah he meditates day and night.
He will be like a planted tree over streams of water,
producing its fruit during its season.
Its leaf never droops—
but in all he does, he succeeds.

The wicked are not so.
For they are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand during the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For Adonai knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

1 Thessalonians 2:1-8

Cherishing Spiritual Children

For you yourselves know, brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not in vain. On the contrary, after we had first suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know,[a] we had boldness in our God to tell you the Good News of God—even in the midst of much opposition. For our urging is not out of deceit or impure motives or trickery. But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we declare it—not pleasing men but rather God, who examines our hearts.[b]

For as you know and God is witness, we never came with a word of flattery or a motive of greed— or seeking glory from people, whether from you or from others, even though we could have thrown our weight around as emissaries of Messiah. Rather, we proved to be infants[c] among you. Like a nursing mother[d] cherishes her children, in this way we were yearning for you. We were delighted to share with you not only the Good News of God but also our very souls, because you had become dear to us.

Matthew 22:34-46

The Greatest Mitzvot

34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that Yeshua had silenced the Sadducees, gathered together in one place. 35 And testing Him, one of them, a lawyer, asked, 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Torah?”

37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ [a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ [b] 40 The entire Torah and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Yeshua Overturns the Arguments

41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Yeshua asked them a question, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose Son is He?”[c]

“David’s,” they say to Him.

43 “Then how is it,” He says to them, “that David by the Ruach calls him ‘Lord’?

44 For he says, ‘Adonai said to my Lord,
    “Sit at My right hand,
until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’[d]

45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?” 46 No one was able to answer Him a word. Nor did anyone dare from that day on to question Him any longer.
