Psalm 96:1-9

Psalm 96(A)

King of the Earth

Sing a new song to the Lord;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.(B)
Sing to Yahweh, praise His name;
proclaim His salvation from day to day.(C)
Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonderful works among all peoples.(D)

For the Lord is great and is highly praised;
He is feared above all gods.(E)
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.(F)
Splendor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.(G)

Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.(H)
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;(I)
bring an offering and enter His courts.(J)
Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness;(K)
tremble before Him, all the earth.(L)

Psalm 96:10-13

10 Say among the nations: “The Lord reigns.(A)
The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken.(B)
He judges the peoples fairly.”(C)
11 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and all that fills it resound.(D)
12 Let the fields and everything in them exult.
Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joy(E)
13 before the Lord, for He is coming—
for He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples with His faithfulness.(F)

Deuteronomy 17:14-20

Appointing a King

14 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you,(A) take possession of it, live in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations around me,’ 15 you are to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses.(B) Appoint a king from your brothers. You are not to set a foreigner over you, or one who is not of your people.(C) 16 However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the Lord has told you, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’(D) 17 He must not acquire many wives for himself so that his heart won’t go astray. He must not acquire very large amounts of silver and gold for himself. 18 When he is seated on his royal throne, he is to write a copy of this instruction for himself on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. 19 It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear(E) the Lord his God, to observe all the words of this instruction, and to do these statutes. 20 Then his heart will not be exalted above his countrymen, he will not turn from this command to the right or the left, and he and his sons will continue ruling many years[a] over Israel.

1 Peter 5:1-5

About the Elders

Therefore, as a fellow elder and witness(A) to the sufferings of the Messiah and also a participant in the glory about to be revealed,(B) I exhort the elders among you: Shepherd God’s flock among you,(C) not overseeing[a] out of compulsion but freely, according to God’s will;[b] not for the money but eagerly; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd(D) appears, you will receive the unfading crown(E) of glory.

In the same way, you younger men, be subject to the elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with[c] humility toward one another, because

God resists the proud
but gives grace to the humble.(F)[d]
