Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord the Shepherd of His People
A Psalm of David.
23 The Lord is (A)my shepherd;
(B)I shall not [a]want.
2 (C)He makes me to lie down in [b]green pastures;
(D)He leads me beside the [c]still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
(E)He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
17 (A)Fear and the pit and the snare
Are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall be
That he who flees from the noise of the fear
Shall fall into the pit,
And he who comes up from the midst of the pit
Shall be [a]caught in the snare;
For (B)the windows from on high are open,
And (C)the foundations of the earth are shaken.
19 (D)The earth is violently broken,
The earth is split open,
The earth is shaken exceedingly.
20 The earth shall (E)reel[b] to and fro like a drunkard,
And shall totter like a hut;
Its transgression shall be heavy upon it,
And it will fall, and not rise again.
21 It shall come to pass in that day
That the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones,
And on the earth (F)the kings of the earth.
22 They will be gathered together,
As prisoners are gathered in the [c]pit,
And will be shut up in the prison;
After many days they will be punished.
23 Then the (G)moon will be disgraced
And the sun ashamed;
For the Lord of hosts will (H)reign
On (I)Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
And before His elders, gloriously.
Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting(A)
18 (B)The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”
19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the [a]friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be (C)taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”
