Psalm 119:65-72

ט Tet

65 Lord, You have treated Your servant well,
just as You promised.
66 Teach me good judgment and discernment,(A)
for I rely on Your commands.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,(B)
but now I keep Your word.
68 You are good,(C) and You do what is good;(D)
teach me Your statutes.
69 The arrogant have smeared me with lies,(E)
but I obey Your precepts with all my heart.(F)
70 Their hearts are hard and insensitive,(G)
but I delight in Your instruction.(H)
71 It was good for me to be afflicted(I)
so that I could learn Your statutes.
72 Instruction from Your lips(J) is better for me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Leviticus 4:27-31

27 “Now if any of the common people[a] sins unintentionally by violating one of the Lord’s commands, does what is prohibited, and incurs guilt, 28 or if someone informs him about the sin he has committed, then he is to bring an unblemished female goat as his offering for the sin that he has committed. 29 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. 30 Then the priest must take some of its blood with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering. He must pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar. 31 He is to remove all its fat just as the fat is removed from the fellowship sacrifice. The priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf, and he will be forgiven.

Leviticus 5:14-16

The Restitution Offering

14 Then the Lord spoke to Moses: 15 “If someone offends(A) by sinning unintentionally(B) in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things,[a] he must bring his restitution offering to the Lord: an unblemished ram from the flock (based on your assessment of its value in silver shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel(C)) as a restitution offering. 16 He must make restitution(D) for his sin regarding any holy(E) thing, adding a fifth of its value to it,(F) and give it to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf with the ram of the restitution offering, and he will be forgiven.(G)

1 Peter 2:11-17

A Call to Good Works

11 Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents(A) to abstain(B) from fleshly(C) desires that war against you.[a](D) 12 Conduct(E) yourselves honorably among the Gentiles,[b] so that in a case where they speak against you as those who do what is evil, they will, by observing your good works, glorify God on the day of visitation.[c](F)

13 Submit(G) to every human authority[d] because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor[e] as the supreme authority(H) 14 or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good. 15 For it is God’s will(I) that you silence the ignorance(J) of foolish people by doing good. 16 As God’s slaves,(K) live as free people, but don’t use your freedom as a way to conceal evil.(L) 17 Honor everyone. Love(M) the brotherhood.(N) Fear God.(O) Honor the Emperor.[f]
