Isaiah 51:17-23

17 (A)Awaken yourself! Awaken yourself! Arise, O Jerusalem,
You who have (B)drunk from the hand of Yahweh the cup of His wrath;
The [a]chalice of reeling you have [b]drained to the dregs.
18 There is (C)none to guide her among all the sons she has borne,
Nor is there one to take hold of her by the hand among all the sons she has reared.
19 These two things have befallen you;
Who will console you?
The (D)devastation and destruction, famine and sword;
How shall I comfort you?
20 Your sons have fainted;
They (E)lie helpless at the head of every street,
Like an (F)antelope in a net,
Full of the wrath of Yahweh,
The (G)rebuke of your God.

21 Therefore, now, listen to this, you (H)afflicted,
Who are (I)drunk, but not with wine:
22 Thus says your Lord, Yahweh, even your God
Who (J)contends for His people,
“Behold, I have taken out of your hand the (K)cup of reeling,
The [c]chalice of My wrath;
You will never drink it again.
23 I will (L)set it into the hand of those who cause you grief,
Who have said to [d]you, ‘(M)Lie down that we may walk over you.’
You have even set your back down like the ground
And like the street for those who walk over it.”

Romans 9:6-13

But it is not as though (A)the word of God has failed. (B)For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; nor are they all children (C)because they are Abraham’s seed, but: “[a](D)through Isaac your seed will be named.” That is, the children of the flesh are not the (E)children of God, but the (F)children of the promise are considered as seed. For this is the word of promise: “(G)At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.” 10 (H)And not only this, but there was (I)Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; 11 for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that the (J)purpose of God according to His choice would [b]stand, not [c]because of works but [d]because of Him who calls, 12 it was said to her, “(K)The older shall serve the younger.” 13 Just as it is written, “(L)Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
