Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
11 Teach me your ways, Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
let me wholeheartedly[a] revere your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with my whole being;
and I will honor your name continuously.
13 For great is your gracious love to me;
you’ve delivered me from the depths of Sheol.[b]
14 God, arrogant men rise up against me,
while a company of ruthless individuals want to kill me.
They do not have regard for you.[c]
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate God,
merciful and patient,[d]
with unending gracious love and faithfulness.
16 Return to me and have mercy on me;
clothe your servant with your strength
and deliver the son of your maid servant.
17 Show me a sign of your goodness,
so that those who hate me will see it and be ashamed.
For you, Lord, will help and comfort me.
18 They don’t realize; they don’t understand, because their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds, too, so they cannot understand. 19 No one stops to think. No one has the knowledge or understanding to think—yes to think!—[a]“Half of it I burned in the fire. I even baked bread on its coals, and[b] I roasted meat and ate it. And[c] am I about to make detestable things[d] from what is left? Am I about to bow down to blocks[e] of wood?” 20 He tends ashes. A deceived mind has lead him astray. It cannot be his life,[f] nor can he say, “There’s a lie in my right hand.”[g]
A Tree is Known by Its Fruit(A)
15 “Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are savage wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruit. Grapes aren’t gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles, are they? 17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into a fire. 20 So by their fruit you will know them.”
