13 Thus saith Jehovah unto me, Go, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. ² So I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins. ³ And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, ⁴ Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock. ⁵ So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me. ⁶ And it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. ⁷ Then I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁸ Then the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, ⁹ Thus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. ¹⁰ This evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing. ¹¹ For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

13 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them ^[a]unto the end. ² And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to ^[b]betray him, ³ Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God, ⁴ riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself. ⁵ Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. ⁶ So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter. ⁸ Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. ⁹ Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. ¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not ^[c]save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. ¹¹ For he knew him that should ^[d]betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

¹² So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and ^[e]sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? ¹³ Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, A ^[f]servant is not greater than his lord; neither ^[g]one that is sent greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.
