Psalm 89:1-4

Psalm 89

Perplexity about God’s Promises

A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.(A)

I will sing about the Lord’s faithful love forever;(B)
I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations
with my mouth.(C)
For I will declare,
“Faithful love is built up forever;
you establish your faithfulness in the heavens.”(D)

The Lord said,
“I have made a covenant with my chosen one;
I have sworn an oath to David my servant:
‘I will establish your offspring forever
and build up your throne for all generations.’”(E)Selah

Psalm 89:15-18

15 Happy are the people who know the joyful shout;(A)
Lord, they walk in the light from your face.(B)
16 They rejoice in your name all day long,
and they are exalted by your righteousness.(C)
17 For you are their magnificent strength;(D)
by your favor our horn is exalted.(E)
18 Surely our shield[a] belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.(F)

Jeremiah 25:8-14

“Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies says: ‘Because you have not obeyed my words, I am going to send for all the families of the north’(A)—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘and send for my servant(B) Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land, against its residents, and against all these surrounding nations, and I will completely destroy them and make them an example of horror(C) and scorn, and ruins forever.(D) 10 I will eliminate the sound of joy and gladness from them—the voice of the groom and the bride,(E) the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. 11 This whole land will become a desolate ruin, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.(F) 12 When the seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation’—this is the Lord’s declaration—‘the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, and I will make it a ruin forever.(G) 13 I will bring on that land all my words I have spoken against it, all that is written in this book that Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations. 14 For many nations and great kings will enslave them, and I will repay them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.’”(H)

Galatians 5:7-12

You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth?(A) This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.(B) A little leaven[a] leavens the whole batch of dough. 10 I myself am persuaded in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty.(C) 11 Now brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross(D) has been abolished. 12 I wish those who are disturbing you might also let themselves be mutilated!
