Version
Psalm 89:1-4

This is a special song that Ethan the Ezrahite wrote.

God's special love[a]

89 I will always sing about the Lord's faithful love.
I will tell my children and my grandchildren
    that you are always faithful.
Yes! Your faithful love will always continue to be strong.
You will always be faithful,
as the skies will always be there.
The Lord has said,
‘I have made a covenant with the king that I chose.
I have made this strong promise to my servant David:
“Someone from your family will always be king.
They will rule for ever.” ’
Selah.

Psalm 89:15-18

15 You have truly blessed the people
who know how to praise you, Lord.
They know that you are pleased with them.
16 They praise your name all the time.
    Your justice makes them happy.
17 You give strength and glory to your people.
Because you are kind to us,
    we win against our enemies.
18 Yes! Our king belongs to the Lord,
and he protects us like a shield.
Our king belongs to the Holy One of Israel.

Jeremiah 25:1-7

Judah's people will be in a foreign land for 70 years

25 The Lord spoke to Jeremiah in the fourth year that Jehoiakim ruled Judah as king. Jehoiakim was the son of King Josiah. It was also the first year that Nebuchadnezzar was king of Babylon. The Lord's message was about the people of Judah. So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the people who were living in Jerusalem.

He said, ‘For 23 years the Lord has been giving me his messages. I started to tell you his messages when Amon's son Josiah had been ruling Judah for 13 years. I have continued to tell you many times what the Lord has said, even until today. But you have refused to listen.

The Lord has also sent his servants, the prophets, to speak to you many times. You have refused to listen to them too. The Lord's message to you was, “Turn away from your wicked way of life. Stop doing the evil things that you are doing. If you do that, you may continue to live in this land. It is the land that the Lord gave to you and to your ancestors to be their home for ever. Do not look for other gods that you can serve and worship. Do not continue to do things that make me angry. Then I will not hurt you.”

So now the Lord says, “You have refused to listen to my messages. You have continued to do things that make me angry. So you have brought trouble on yourselves.”

Galatians 5:2-6

Listen carefully! I, Paul, tell you this. If you agree that someone should circumcise you, then Christ will be worth nothing to you. I will say it very clearly. Every man who lets someone circumcise him must then obey all the Jewish rules. I say this to you people who try to obey the rules of God's Law. If you think that God will accept you as right because you do that, you have turned away from Christ. You no longer agree to accept God's kind gift. But if we trust what Christ has done for us, God's Spirit helps us to wait. We are sure that God will accept us as right with him. We belong to Christ Jesus. So it does not matter whether anyone has circumcised us or not. The only thing that matters is that we believe in Christ. As a result we will love others in the way that we live.
