Psalm 6

A Prayer of Faith in Time of Distress

To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. (A)On [a]an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, (B)do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
O Lord, (C)heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly (D)troubled;
But You, O Lord—how long?

Return, O Lord, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
(E)For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks?

I am weary with my groaning;
[b]All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears.
(F)My eye wastes away because of grief;
It grows old because of all my enemies.

(G)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the Lord has (H)heard the voice of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my supplication;
The Lord will receive my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

Jeremiah 26:1-12

Jeremiah Saved from Death(A)

26 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in (B)the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, (C)all the words that I command you to speak to them. (D)Do not diminish a word. (E)Perhaps everyone will listen and turn from his evil way, that I may (F)relent concerning the calamity which I purpose to bring on them because of the evil of their doings.’ And you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: (G)“If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you, to heed the words of My servants the prophets (H)whom I sent to you, both rising up early and sending them (but you have not heeded), then I will make this house like (I)Shiloh, and will make this city (J)a curse to all the nations of the earth.” ’ ”

So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. Now it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You will surely die! Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be (K)desolate, without an inhabitant’?” And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

10 When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and sat down in the entry of the New Gate of the Lord’s house. 11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and all the people, saying, [a]“This man deserves to (L)die! For he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”

12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying: “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city with all the words that you have heard.

Revelation 2:8-11

The Persecuted Church

“And to the [a]angel of the church in Smyrna write,

‘These things says (A)the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are (B)rich); and I know the blasphemy of (C)those who say they are Jews and are not, (D)but are a [b]synagogue of Satan. 10 (E)Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. (F)Be faithful until death, and I will give you (G)the crown of life.

11 (H)“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by (I)the second death.” ’
