Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 Because (A)for Your sake I have borne reproach;
(B)Dishonor has covered my face.
8 I have become (C)estranged [a]from my brothers
And a foreigner to my mother’s sons.
9 For (D)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And (E)the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
10 When I wept (F)in my soul with fasting,
It became my reproach.
11 When I made (A)sackcloth my clothing,
I became (B)a byword to them.
12 Those who (C)dwell at the gate moan about me,
And I am (D)the drunkards’ songs.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Yahweh, (E)at an acceptable time;
O God, in the (F)abundance of Your lovingkindness,
Answer me with the truth of Your salvation.
14 Deliver me from the (G)mire and do not let me sink;
May I be (H)delivered from [a]my foes and from the [b](I)deep waters.
15 May the [c](J)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (K)pit shut its mouth on me.
Yahweh Speaks Against Pashhur
20 Then Pashhur the priest, the son of (A)Immer, who was (B)ruling overseer in the house of Yahweh, heard Jeremiah prophesying these words; 2 and Pashhur had Jeremiah the prophet (C)struck and put him in the (D)stocks that were at the upper (E)Benjamin Gate, which was by the house of Yahweh. 3 Now it happened that on the next day, Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks. And Jeremiah said to him, “Pashhur is not the name Yahweh has (F)called you, but rather [a](G)Magor-missabib. 4 For thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I am going to make you a (H)terror to yourself and to all your friends; and while (I)your eyes look on, they will fall by the sword of their enemies. So I will (J)give over all Judah to the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take them away into (K)exile to Babylon and will strike them down with the sword. 5 I will also give over all the (L)wealth of this city, all the fruit of its labor, and all its precious things; even all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give over to the (M)hand of their enemies, and they will plunder them, take them away, and bring them to Babylon. 6 And you, (N)Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into captivity; and you will enter Babylon, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you and all your (O)friends to whom you have (P)prophesied lies.’”
53 And when He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to question Him closely on many subjects, 54 (A)plotting (B)to catch [a]Him in something He might say.
Fear Only God
12 At this time, after [b]so many thousands of the crowd had gathered together that they were trampling on one another, He began saying to His disciples first, “(C)Be on your guard for the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 (D)But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 3 Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have [c]whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon (E)the housetops.
